For a girl. Or do you like Flossy?

Haven't heard that name since the show 'home and away' in the 90s haha. I like it :)

Viebienremplie · 16/03/2019 13:57

I like Pippa but it's a bit too cutesy for all potential walks of life. And I don't like Philippa so that would rule it out for me.

I love Florence but not keen on Flossy

wizzler · 16/03/2019 14:24

I like Pippa but would call her Philippa and use PIppa as a nn if she chooses.
IME Flossy is usually a Border Collie.

Sorry, I just don't like that name.

emilybrontescorsett · 16/03/2019 15:04

Both sound like Nick names to me.
I really don't like Flossy. It's ok as a Nick name but that's it.
Pippa is nicer but I would call her Philippa.

Suzypoo10 · 06/09/2019 19:38

I have a 15 year old Philippa, Pippa or Pip for short. I don’t know any other Pippa’s at all, and didn’t research the name, just chose it because we liked it. According to Polish kids at her school, it is Polish slang for the female genitalia.

Frith2013 · 06/09/2019 22:12

Pippa is ok.

Flossy is ridiculous.

Gummybearsy · 06/09/2019 22:57

I really dislike Pippa. And Flossy isn't much better!

SecondSleep · 07/09/2019 03:21

Neither

joystir59 · 07/09/2019 03:55

Both awful names. I don't like Phillipa either but Florence is ok, a bit dull imo

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 07/09/2019 06:20

I would never use Pippa because it is quite rude in other languages!

Astronica · 07/09/2019 06:22

I think Pippa is great. I don't mind Flossy for a nickname (Florence, Flora or Felicity) but not on its own.

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 07/09/2019 06:23

As an expat I can confirm that Pippa DOES have a rather rude meaning where I have come from and I have friends from other parts of Europe who have confirmed it means other different but equally as rude things in their language. My cousin is called Pippa and it was rather funny when she came to visit. I wouldn’t use it for this reason (also just don’t like it and think Phillippa is even worse!). Really don’t like Flossy either but Flora is nice.

HenriettaH · 07/09/2019 06:31

I don't like the name Pippa. Pippy Longstocking comes to mind. As for Flossy, I cant imagine why anyone would actually choose that for a name. Maybe for a cat!

BillywilliamV · 07/09/2019 06:47

Do you think that you might be giving birth to an old english sheep dog? OP?

SummerPlace · 07/09/2019 07:13

I love Pippa, but I'm prejudiced because I've always liked the Robert Browning poem, "Pippa's Song," which a lot of people probably think is horribly saccharin.
Flossy makes me think of nasty, violently pink spun sugar.

Ellmau · 07/09/2019 07:36

FLOSSY Makes me think of teeth.

RuthW · 07/09/2019 09:17

I have a Florence who we assumed we would call Flossie as a nn. Flossie never suited her although me and her dad call her Floss. Everyone else calls her Flo (which I also like). She likes to be called Florence in a professional setting and hates it when people she doesn't know shorten it without asking.
