I always said I wouldn't but absolutely adore a name that starts with the same letter as DC1? Thoughts? Is it chavvy?

I think if you have 3 or 4 then it's a bit much as it seems very deliberate. I have two girls both with C names, but they are different sounds, one has a Ch and the other a hard C. It wasn't deliberate at all, it's just that we liked those names. If DH had given in, then we'd have had an L and C but it just wasn't to be. If people think it's tacky then that's their issue.

My three are all CC (2 SDS and one DC)

I have mixed opinions about this. If you have only two kids or a lot of kids with names all starting with the same letter, I think its a bit twee and Kardashian-y and personally wouldn't do it.
I think it's a completely different story if you have, say, five children and it happens that two of them have names starting with the same letter. I think that's absolutely fine! go with what you love x

My daughters have the same first letter, it's the same as mine to but it just happened my top 5 names all begin with that letter. Their names sound very different though.

If I had narrowed my preferences for the second baby’s name down to just two that I liked equally, then I’d probably choose the name with a different initial if I really liked both absolutely equally. But otherwise I wouldn’t let it bother me and I think it’s absolutely fine.

I have a DD and a DS who are both J. Makes name labels for neutral school things easy! But on a serious note doesn't bother me in the slightest, those are the names we loved, didn't plan it that way

Aw you'll be just like Pauline Fowler! Smile

mrsdavys · 19/03/2019 13:08

I don’t see it as an issue at all.
You name your children what you like and then if the names happen to start with the same letter, well, why would that matter?

Antonin · 20/03/2019 23:43

In my family. all 3 of us had names beginning with the same.letter. It wasn’t planned and never caused any problems.. Names sounded different.

neddle · 20/03/2019 23:52

All mine have different initials, it makes it a lot easier for shorthand writing. Eg in my diary or on the calendar!i just write their letter rather than a full name. (I do have a large family though).

What they do share though is the last letter of their name. It’s also the same last letter for both mine and dh’s name. The first one was deliberate and matched the last two letters of mine and my mum’s names. The second one just happened without us thinking about it. By the third, wed realised and carried it on. After that, it got a little harder, but still doable.
To be fair, our surname starts with an s, which makes it difficult for names to sound right with it.

3 of my 4 children have names starting with the same letter, it’s entirely coincidental, perhaps because don’t have the same sound it didn’t really occur to me until I had no4 and she didn’t fit the ‘theme’. No one every says anything about it! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Crunchymum · 21/03/2019 21:41

Depends on the names? If they are similar then yes it's a bit meh..... but for example Adam and Anabelle are fine.
