Thoughts on Hebe?

This has been my favourite girls’ name for a while but would love to hear your opinions! I’m hesitant because I suspect a lot of my family and friends wouldn’t be huge fans. I originally read it in a novel but it’s apparently the name of the Greek goddess of youth (and a shrub Grin)

Would people confuse it with Phoebe?

Does anyone know a Hebe?

Any similar names I might like?

I love Hebe, it's like Phoebe but cuter and more unusual. Since I had boys, it's very high up on my dog name list Grin

I know one in her twenties. Very cool, quite posh. It’s definitely a name that suggests money. I thought it was a bit unusual first time I heard it but not afterwards.

Funnily enough, Hebe was the answer to a crossword clue I had earlier this morning!

The clue was "Olympian cup bearer - evergreen garden shrub"

It makes me think of heeby-jeebies. I doubt that's helpful...

I love Hebe as a name. Wasn’t there a character in the wonderful novels of Mary Wesley called Hebe?

I have never, ever heard it used as a racist / derogatory term. Where is that common?

EveryoneFreeze · 09/03/2019 11:24

I’m Jewish and I’m afraid I thought this was a joke in poor taste.

EveryoneFreeze · 09/03/2019 11:25

Hit post too soon. I realize now it wasn’t, and it’s a perfectly fine name, but it definitely will have those connotations for some people.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 09/03/2019 11:30

i thought heebie jeebies and then racist insult

aliceandkids77 · 09/03/2019 11:59

Never heard before, is it pronounced Heebee? Not sure I’m a fan of it...

daisypond · 09/03/2019 13:25

I like it. It's quite a well known plant, so it shouldn't cause that much confusion.

TatianaLarina · 09/03/2019 14:26

It’s ok, I prefer Phoebe and other Greek names.

SemperIdem · 09/03/2019 21:48

I really don’t like it.

Heebie jeebies, hebephile etc.

Thanks all for your thoughts, good and bad Smile Cleo is also another favourite
