...that more or less work in French too. Not much to ask, I know!

Can't have Anna, Sophie, Elisabeth, Marianne or Beatrice (outs self), but these will give you an idea of the kinds of names we like.

The French connection means that the endings will probably have an 'e' rather than an 'a' (e.g: Marguerite rather than Margarita). I'm open to more unusual names, but DH is fairly conservative... Please help!

My first thought was Mirabelle, though I'm not sure how well it would go down with the French family with the plum connection (but then Victoria is also a type of plum). I think Mirabelle and Olivine are lovely classic names alongside many of the others already posted.

Manon, Capucine, Maëlys, Clemence.

No-one in the U.K. will ever remember the French version of Genevieve. It will always be Jen a veeve.

Vivienne must go - it’s a 80’s beautician’s name. And Emanuelle to my generation is soft porn.

MariaNovella · 10/03/2019 14:58

Emmanuelle (double M) gets shortened to Emma

MariaNovella · 10/03/2019 15:00

Genevieve is an old lady name in French - like Sylvie.

ChesterBelloc · 10/03/2019 17:48

How is Maëlys pronounced?

And could I get away with the spelling Olivigne..?

Like Elise but with My in front of it.

My-elise.

Olivigne sounds like an olive oil margarine.

I used to really like Noémie, but have gone off it a bit; conversely OH has vetoed it in the past but now likes it :-/

Quite like Juliette, but OH doesn't...

Don't really like all the feminised-versions-of-male-names: Fabienne, Henriette, Antoinette etc

Is Olivia far too common now? Commonly used, I mean, not 'chav'-tastic...

Noémie will just be Nomie in the U.K. the e acute will baffle people.

Bobbybobbins · 10/03/2019 21:46

Absolutely untrue. We're not cave dwellers. Wink I've know a few Noemies (outside of France) over the years. I'm from Southern California and- surprise, surprise- I was never baffled by this name. There's hope for people in the UK yet!

Emmanuelle is shortened to Manu, OP. I love this name.
Anaïs is one of my favourites though.

TheVanguardSix · 13/03/2019 11:06

Oh and Manon is another name I love. Manon des sources.

TheVanguardSix · 13/03/2019 11:08

Anouk as well.

I like Anouk and Anaïs, but already have an Anna, so I think they'd be too similar.

Also have a niece Manon... Confused
