Daisy?

Do you see Daisy as a "cutesy" name?

Can you imagine a fully grown professional woman with this name?

I really love it but OH isn't keen for those reasons, he likes it but only for a child? Just curious as to what everyone else thinks, trying to sway him!!

Yes a bit cutesy. But of the cutesy names it’s probably one of the least cutesy if that makes any sense?! I don’t see it as akin to a Teddy for instance.

MumUnderTheMoon · 08/03/2019 11:35

Daisy Johnson is a kick ass superhero in the marvel universe so I definitely don't consider it cutesy. It's awesome.

ShannonRockallMalin · 08/03/2019 11:42

I love it. Daisy was my top girls’ name but I had boys. I used to work with a twenty something Daisy who was very arty and cool, and my DS is at school with a Daisy who is very tomboyish so it doesn’t seem cutesy to me.

I think all flower names tend to be OK - so Poppy, Lily, etc, are fine, even though they end in a Y. They are just the name of the flower, they are not a name being made deliberately cute. Daisy fits into that pattern, but because Daisy is a traditional short form for Margaret, there is an element that makes me think "cutesy", whereas I wouldn't with Poppy. There is something, however, about the smallness and "weedness" of a daisy that might put me off using it - though of course there are many positives if you want to concentrate on those - everlasting, resilient, means "day's eye" - sun - which is nice.

Beautiful name!
It’s a classic and very girly.

Mumsneters seem to be more for borrrrrrring plain “boardroom” names though!

LOTR · 08/03/2019 16:42

My friend is a Daisy, short for Damaris...

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 08/03/2019 21:35

I think it is sweet but not too cutesy. I think it would suit a grown woman just fine!

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 08/03/2019 21:36

Also just to add, daisy Ridley is 26 and daisy Lowe is 30 and I think it suits them both nicely!

I have a teenage Daisy. When she was born I loved the name but as she grew I did worry that the name wouldn’t grow with her but it definitely has.

Thank you for all of the replies! I guess it's just not to some people's taste, but I love it! I agree with what pp's are saying, that there will be a lot of cutesy named 30 year olds in 30 years 😂 so it will be the norm then, never really looked at it that way. Neither did OH, I think he's swaying slightly.. I just think it's really pretty. I really don't like the full version, and wouldn't even use it on the birth certificate, I like it just as it is. OHs favourite name is "Freya"

Freya is a lovely name but it does just make me think of bras.

aliceandkids77 · 09/03/2019 12:04

I love the name Daisy! Me and my sister are Daisy and Alice which I’ve always thought go well together. My sister is a 30 year old Daisy and it fits her perfectly so it’s not too cutesy imo!

Arpafeelie · 09/03/2019 14:25

I had a great aunt Daisy, so it's an "old lady" name to me. I love it.

HaventGotAllDay · 09/03/2019 17:12

I agree with a pp.
In 25 years time the world will be full of professional women called Millie, Evie, Ellie etc.
And in 60 every child called Doris or Enoch will have a great aunt Daisy and be put off because it's become old lady again.

MintyCedric · 09/03/2019 17:15

My niece is a (late teens) Daisy.

She is utterly fabulous but I certainly wouldn't describe her as cutesy!
