We found out last week that we’re having another girl. We have these names on our list and was wondering which your favourite was. Big sister is Violet.

Beatrice
Beatrix
Penelope
Cecilia
Cecily
Emmeline

I love Theodora followed by Eleanor then Emmeline.

Jessi88 · 05/03/2019 19:36

Thanks for the great feedback guys.

Thea is a nickname I love for Theodora but we want a name that can be shortened so it’s not a name we’d use as a stand alone. My in laws always refer to Violet by a nick name because my MIL doesn’t like Violet. I have a feeling any name that isn’t chosen by her will get the same reception.

Our DD2 is a week old and is Cecily!

Jessi88 · 05/03/2019 20:11

@Thesnobbymiddleclassone Congrats! It’s a lovely name.

TatianaLarina · 05/03/2019 22:41

Beatrice by miles.

Beatrice and Violet are gorgeous together.

TatianaLarina · 05/03/2019 22:42

I have a feeling any name that isn’t chosen by her will get the same reception.

Start calling MIL a nickname.

pearldeodorant · 05/03/2019 22:51

Beatrice - fine
Beatrix - no
Penelope - I like this and Penny too
Cecilia - also like this, very elegant
Cecily - no sorry
Emmeline - no
Matilda - like this
Eleanor - love this
Mabel - nope definitely not
Theodora - lovely name

You've got some beautiful names on your list. I think they all go with Violet too. Sorry probably not much help!

Jessi88 · 06/03/2019 18:46

@TatianaLarina I have a few that I’d like to call her lol. I’m happy enough with her using a nickname for Violet as she did previously want to always refer to her by her middle name.

I quite like all your names - except Mabel (dreary servant name) and Emmeline - nice enough in itself but will be shortened to the very bland Emmie.

MercyBodle · 06/03/2019 22:14

A lovely list, the only ones I'm not so keen on are Mabel, Cecilia and Emmeline. I do think Mabel goes well with Violet though.

My favourites with sister Violet are Beatrix, Penelope, Cecily and Eleanor.

Bumblebeesmum · 06/03/2019 22:31

What a beautiful list of names - other than Mabel I love them all & think they all work well with Violet

3in4years · 06/03/2019 23:07

I only like Matilda.

Jessi88 · 07/03/2019 18:42

I think I’m leaning towards Beatrix rather than Beatrice. Beatrix reminds me of Beatrix Potter and my parents reading her stories to me as a child. I wonder if Emmeline would get mispronounced and I do love Mabel and it’s meaning but I wonder if it’s too old.

I also love the suggestions of Clementine, Josephine and Dorothea but I feel like so way with them as I do Mabel. I also wonder if they’re a bit unusual compared to Violet. I also feel the same way with Esme as I do with Emmeline. I think it would get misspelt and mispronounced a lot.

We also spoke about Florence. It’s a bit floral with Violet but I don’t think it’s overly so? We’re also trying to think about the future as the two boy names we kept going back to with both pregnancies where Arthur and Theodore.

Id go for Beatrix too, fits perfectly with Violet imo.

whattimeisitnow · 08/03/2019 12:52

I like all your names. I'm not as fond of Mabel and Theodora as the others. Eleanor is such a pretty classic but some of the other names are in a more similar style to Violet.

Beatrice
Beatrix
Penelope
Cecilia
Cecily
Emmeline
Matilda
Eleanor
Mabel
Theodora

Jessi88 · 08/03/2019 18:39

We’ve fallen in love with Florence Beatrix Cait. Violet has two middle names and Cait is a family name so we thought we’d use it as a second.

Beatrice - yes
Beatrix - yes but prefer the above
Penelope - no because I don't like the inevitable Penny nn
Cecilia - no, sounds too much like celery
Cecily - as above
Emmeline - yes
Matilda - no, used to be quirky now it's too popular and not a very nice sounding name anyway, also dislike Tilly/Tillie
Eleanor - yes
Mabel - no, too much like table
Theodora - yes but dislike Dora

Bellaposey · 08/03/2019 21:51

Beautiful choice OP Smile

Redskyandrainbows67 · 08/03/2019 22:00

I like that!
Violet and Florence sound lovely together

JenSFP · 09/03/2019 10:01

I like Penelope as I’d shorten to Penny which is a bit unusual/not overly common; also like Cecily but perhaps a little fussy for my taste. Eleanor a bit 1990s for me??

Jessi88 · 09/03/2019 10:07

I think we’re going to go with Florence for her first name :) Middle name will either be Beatrix or Aurora, I think.

I like violet and Mabel

Honeydukesmum · 10/03/2019 11:24

We have a Beatrix (nn Bertie) we love the strong woman connection with helping National Trust form, entrepreneur, artist, writer etc

As you can tell from my name big Harry Potter fan (Bertie was every flavour bean and it’s stuck) so the Potter part of Beatrix is added bonus to us

Pregnant again with another girl and Cecily from the Beatrix Potter nursery rhyme collection is on our list .

Love both alongside violet 🥰
