Baby Names By Region (2019 Edition)

Hey!

So I'm not sure if this has been done again but last year when thinking of names whilst pregnant I made a thread recording baby names people had heard by region. It was based off of the fact me and DP had differing views on 'popular' names due to being from different areas. I find it really interesting!

So far I've heard:
Rose (South-East)
Hope Rose (North-West)
Fox (North-West)
Hollie (West Scotland)
Emily (West Scotland)

I'm from the North West and have never met a child named Fox! I like the name.. But definitely don't know any.

Infact, that's a bit of a random post. Where are you getting your information?

Bumblebeesmum · 20/02/2019 03:37

The Office of National Statistics release all the baby name data and also include regional top 10s which are quite interesting where they differ from the overall top 10s. Don’t recall any foxes though

Sessy19 · 20/02/2019 07:04

OP wasn’t asking for statistically accurate conventions, she was asking for popular names by region on personal experience! RTFQ

Linny88 · 20/02/2019 07:55

I’ve met a couple of foxes and wolves in London (I’m talking about children not animals).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/02/2019 09:01

I've yet to go anywhere and not heard a Charlie. Also heard quite a few Aprils. Yet its not its not in the top 100. Unless its the same child Grin
Hearing a quite a few Gabriels, too.
I'm in Liverpool

Sophronia · 20/02/2019 17:31

Hearing lots of these at the moment in the South West: Theo, Albie, Zachary, Alfred, Jacob, Noah, Esme, Imogen, Ivy, Eva, Iris, Aria

Bumblebeesmum · 20/02/2019 18:15

What does RTFQ mean?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/02/2019 18:45

@Bumblebeesmum.
Read the Fucking question, it means.

Nicci85 · 20/02/2019 19:09

I’m just north of London in the commuter belt and have an eight month old baby. I’m also obsessed with baby names. The ones round here are:
Boys: Ted / Teddy (have met 5 babies with this name), Arlo (again very popular here) main two ... other babies I’ve met very recently: Jude, Ralph, Toby, Oliver, Elliot
Girls: Emily! Know 3 under a year also Isla - tonnes round here ... also Ivy, Willow, Violet

Bumblebeesmum · 20/02/2019 19:12

Bloody hell that’s horrible. I understood the question I was just offering what I thought was interesting information on the same topic. Having autism means communication isn’t as natural / intuitive for me as it is for others & I know I can bore people being too much about facts and figures but that’s really really upset me.
Thanks for letting me know anyway.

Cosmoa · 20/02/2019 20:02

@Bumblebeesmum please please please just ignore them. Mumsnet is full of horribly awful people hiding behind their phones or computers and venting their anger.

Bumblebeesmum · 20/02/2019 20:07

Thank you I appreciate that

HappyDinosaur · 20/02/2019 20:12

I've recently heard:

SW: Oliver, Niamh, Jackson, Poppy, Jessica
SE: Milo, Matilda
E: Cayman, Amelia, Lola
Abroad: Avery

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 20/02/2019 20:20

What Cosmoa said.

Linny88 · 20/02/2019 20:53

@bumblesbeesmum I didn’t think your comment was out of place or boring at all. I think the response you got was incredibly rude. Please don’t take it to heart. People also use these abbreviations and acronyms without any thought about how harsh they sound when you say each word out loud.

FairyFantastic · 23/02/2019 10:05

Aw @bumblesbeesmum thanks for that! I'll take a look, I do find this sort of thing interesting.

@Cosmoa
I know of a Fox born in 2018, and I thought that was unusual, but then another was born recently. I agree though it is unusual. I also know of someone using Fox as a middle name.
@happydinosaur - Cayman is one I've never heard before!
@Awwlookatmybabyspider Yeah I've heard a few Charlie's. The name has grown on me but I already know a lot in my year group too. I think it is quite a timeless name though. Gabriel surprises me, I've heard a few over the years but not too many. I love April but not heard any round here

I've met lots of baby Aria/ Arianna's and Leos recently.
I'm in Central Scotland

Quintella · 23/02/2019 20:11

OP wasn’t asking for statistically accurate conventions, she was asking for popular names by region on personal experience! RTFQ

And if you'd taken time to read the OP's post you might have noticed there was no FQ.

Arse.

Bumblebeesmum · 23/02/2019 21:21

@Quintella Grin

EssentialHummus · 23/02/2019 21:36
