Hi,

We're about to have our first little one in a few months time.
While we found a name for a girl with relative ease, we're struggling for a boy's name.

Due to having different backgrounds, we'd ideally like a name that works in English, German and French.
Have you got any suggestions?

Thanks so much in advance 😊👶

Phillip, David, Leo, Paul, Albert, Maximilian, Clement, Robert, Thomas, Lucas, Daniel, Frank, Martin, Sebastian, Alexander, Adam, Victor, Nicolas...

Slightly different pronunciations and some spelling variations, but still very recognisable

Frederick
Patrick
Christian
Oscar

None of the languages you mentioned, but Matteo would work.
Theo will be Tayo in Fance and Germany. It's nicer than the english way of saying it. Something like Frank or Michael might work.
I much prefer classic names, so flora's suggestions are good.
Paul is due for a comeback IMO.

Thank you all so far!
Yes, it's a real tricky one. We've got a middle name sorted (Geoff - after my late FIL) so trying to find something that suits that too seems a bit complicated. 🙈

Thank you all! :) I know it's a toughy. I'm sure we'll get to a name eventually.
I actually quite like Nordic and scandinavian names but they won't fly hahaha

Lots of scandies are called Thomas sometimes with spelling Tomas. Another quite unusual Scandi name is Stellan

Stefan/Stephan
Carl
Robert
Kiefer
Anton/Anthon

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 15/02/2019 13:21

not Kiefer - is a jaw or a pine tree in German.

I'd also avoid Nicholas, although it's a lovely name, because Germans will tend to spell (and pronounce) it Niklas.

I think one of the most current and international ones PPs have suggested is Finn. Very popular in Germany.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 15/02/2019 13:22

Several of the names in my first post belong to German classmates of my dc.

CeeCee88 · 15/02/2019 13:30

Finn is my exes name, so wouldn't want to go for that. ;)
Yeah, I grew up speaking German and French whereas my wife speaks only English. And I'd just quite my extended family being able to pronounce our little one's name when he/She makes an appearance.

I know a Belgian called Patrick. Seems to work well in French, Dutch (Flemish) and German.

Yannick
Fabian

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 15/02/2019 15:55

Oh yes, Fabian's nice. Oliver's a bit 'man in late middle age' in German. Sort of a German Brian or Alan. Yannick'll go down well in France and Germany and has the advantage of being easily pronouncable in English.
