Pretty self explanatory! Is Ezra going to be the new 'old' done name for a boy?

I only know one Ezra and he’s an adult. So I’d say no. But who knows?!

FlyingMonkeys · 14/02/2019 05:32

@FlagFish Thanks! Dd having a wobble if it's 'too out there! Or not out there enough?' 😁

Seems on a popular increase though. So I'm also voting who knows?

It's definitely on the rise and becoming really trendy and popular.

confusedandcrazymother · 14/02/2019 06:34

It is getting more popular...I’m not sure if it will become a trendy fad name. But it’s not on par with traditional names like William and James etc.

AuntieStella · 14/02/2019 06:47

It's been around in parts of the country for some years now (I know ones aged 5 and 6). Yes, it's being used enough, and for long enough, that it won't seem an unusual name.

But I don't see it hitting the middle name ubiquity of Rose

Susannach · 14/02/2019 07:25

No, I think that’s Arthur! Or maybe Fred/Freddie.

Def getting more popular, but it’s got a much “edgier” sound than Rose so probably not the same mass appeal.

ComeMonday · 14/02/2019 07:37

I know two little Ezras in west London. ( and about 8 Freddies!)

ArtisanPopcorn · 14/02/2019 07:42

The most recent baby born amongst my friends is a boy called Ezra.

According to Darkgreener it's on an extremely steep upward slope and is in the top 100 so pretty popular.

MikeUniformMike · 14/02/2019 15:17

Very popular, I'm afraid. I'd say it is like Noah was a few years ago.
Chances are, little Ez will be one of several in his reception class.

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/02/2019 15:29

Ezra and Arlo seem to be the names people are going for to be a little bit different at the moment but unfortunately I think that’s resulting in the ‘Noah’ effect.

RiverTam · 14/02/2019 15:33

Does it matter? It's a great name (as is Rose).

Popularity depends very much on where you live. I live somewhere where everyone is so desperate not to give their child a popular name (probably all MNers) that popular names end up not being very popular!

Cosmoa · 14/02/2019 16:04

Rose is more popular as a middle name rather than a first name.

Calloway · 14/02/2019 16:06

I really think so. I had never met a single Ezra in my life and in the past 18 months or so I've met three little ones!

dolphin50 · 14/02/2019 19:35

i love my daughters name rose. a rose stands for love and passion and it means to rise up. like jesus rose on the cross, the sun rose on the beach. it is so classic and there is rose from titanic, rose bryne the actress and lady rose windsor. its not that uncommon but thankfully its not like sophie and olivia where there is millions around
its all a personal choice but i think names that end with a for a boy sound quite feminine to me. my nephew is Ezrah and the name just makes me think of him now

Tavannach · 14/02/2019 22:43

Ranked 81 in 2017. Climbing steeply, but it's a lovely name so what does that matter, and 81st is not all that common.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 14/02/2019 22:44

Its the new Oliver round here tbh
But not quite the new Jack

TreesoftheField · 15/02/2019 16:43

I know about 15..... I live in hipsterville and it's everywhere. More interesting than George though

dolphin50 · 15/02/2019 23:20

my nephew Ezrah is nicknamed Ezzie. i think thats cute

Sessy19 · 16/02/2019 17:20

I’ve been a fan of Ezra since school-there was a very cool and very pleasant Ezra a year above me.

My aunt is called Rose, and I associate the name with fusty smelling tat from body shop and M&S! I’m not a fan of the word as a name, I think it sounds incomplete.

Other than the two, I know no others with the names. I know Ezra is supposed to be faddy, but I don’t have personal experience of it. Rose is a filler name like May, only popular as a gap-filling middle name.
