If we went for a name currently in the mid 20s in popularity which has been climbing the last couple of years... how many in a class would we be talking about, ballpark?

Odd question!
Depends on the name/demographics of where you live/possibility of other spellings (eg Isabel/Isobel/Isabelle ...loads of spellings categorised as deprecate names on the baby name lists so are more common in RL)/celeb or royal family baby name trends
In the 20’s=likely another child in class/yr group/football team/dance classes will have same name.

Categorised as DIFFERENT names

I’d imagine mid 20s you’d likely be the only one in the class, but nothing can be guaranteed.

As a high school teacher I’ve just looked at the top baby names for 2004 and I currently do not teach a single Jack (#1) but have a group with 4 Ben’s in (#25)

Then again in the year group above there isn’t a single Ben 🤷🏻‍♀️

My 7 month old DS has a name in the mid 20s and we haven’t met another baby with his name yet.

FlagFish · 14/02/2019 06:30

I have two DSs with mid 20s names and they’re both the only ones in their class. But then again, my friend chose a very unusual name (outside the top 100) and there happens to be another child in the class with the same name. So it’s partly luck.

ooooohbetty · 14/02/2019 06:41

Why does that matter. Give a child a name you like. It doesn't matter how many other children are called the same name.

123Flopsy · 14/02/2019 07:38

It will depend on the local popularity where you live. The ons provides regional lists.

WeeDoughball · 14/02/2019 08:11

I think it's just your luck and can't really be predicted. DC1 is at nursery with 4 Conors and 3 boys called Harris and neither name is near the top 20. I'd never even met a Conor until he went to nursery!

YouSetTheTone · 14/02/2019 09:03

Agree it’s pot luck. My DS1 has a top 10 name but no others in his class (duplicates of Dexter and Zach though).
My midwife told me that of the babies been born recently there have been duplicates of Moses and Barbara - expect those parents would be surprised!

RiverTam · 14/02/2019 09:07

Who knows? My DD has a popular name than according to mn she'd be one of at least 6 in her class- just her.

BareBelliedSneetch · 14/02/2019 09:11

DS has a name that hovers around the 100 mark. I think it was about 97 in the year he was born. He goes to a small village school, and isn’t the only one with his name in his class. And yet there are no Olivers (No1 that year).

aj90x · 14/02/2019 13:09

I would suggest looking at something like this...

www.bounty.com/pregnancy-and-birth/baby-names/baby-names-regional

May give a better indication however you could never guarantee it.

BigusBumus · 14/02/2019 13:21

I have a Harry and he was the only one in his Village Primary class of 28. He was one of 3 in the whole school (250 children).

Now in Year 7 at Senior and still only one of 5 in his year, so not too bad.

Wakk · 14/02/2019 13:25

As a teacher I think it's worse if parents try to be original and then we end up with a couple of them in a class.

I've had that with Mackenzie and Atticus and Delilah.

Bet the parents didn't expect duplicates, I was certainly surprised

DianaBlythe · 14/02/2019 23:20

Thanks everyone! Especially like the regional bounty thing! Like you say you could go for #200 and have two in a class or #1 and have 0.

DH was one of 5 in his class at secondary school and he’s turned out fine!

I think we’ll likely go for our mid 20s climber, was just thinking out loud!
