Stuck for a boy's name ...

Both me and DP like Henry, Teddy & Charlie, but we don't 'love' any of them tbh.

Henry is the front runner at the moment, only slight reservation is that I can't get the Henry Hoover, Horrid Henry and Henry the 8th associations out of my head, silly I know, but still ...

Teddy is a close second, only concern is it being a name that wouldn't quite suit an adult as it would it a little boy, but we are also considering Ted?

Charlie, again lovely name. Only downside is how popular it is. We're not after a mega unique name but don't want our son to be one of several children in his class with the same name.

Which do you like best? If we like these names which others might we also like?

Good luck on your name quest!

And, congratulations! Smile Flowers

I like Henry best, it's a good name.

Teddy might be cute on a toddler but it really needs a grown up name like Edward or Theodore on the birth certificate as it's babyish on an adult.

Ditto Charlie, Charles on the BC to give a dignified, grown up option.

I like Henry and Charlie is ok but Teddy is only ever good on a dog imo and even then I wouldn’t.

RoryLeighGilmore · 07/02/2019 07:11

I think he'll likely be one of several in his class with any of those names.

Henry is the best name, strongly dislike Teddy

Bumblebeesmum · 07/02/2019 08:38

Ted for Theo or Edward is cute
I love the name Henry & I think you’d very quickly only associate it with your own baby
Charles nn Charlie is nice too

They're all quite overused and dull, sorry. He'll probably be one of several in his class.

Love the suggestions of Magnus, Cassius or how about Rufus or Quentin?

Mumtobe193 · 07/02/2019 13:40

In the area I live the only name on my list that I would say is overused is Charlie. Never heard of another Teddy and only one other Henry. Maybe it's different depending on where you live?

I do like the idea of having Theodore on the BC for Teddy as it is a bit nicknamey to be a name in its own right. Then he has the option of being Teddy as a little boy, Theo as a teenager, then Ted or Theodore as an adult. Can't get Theodore past DP though, he seems to prefer short, simple names. I suggested Theodore and Sebastian to him and he really disliked both names, he felt they were a little 'posh' and pretentious. Are they really?

I see the name Toby popping up quite a lot recently, I really like it, I'd probably use Tobias as his 'Sunday name' and on BC, then use Toby day to day. DP has the same opinion on Tobias that he had on Theodore and Sebastian, although he says he doesn't mind Toby, so maybe he could be convinced?

This naming a baby business is so difficult, it would be far easier if my DP didn't veto 99% of the suggestions I make.

Any more suggestions ladies?

If it helps his middle name will definitely be George, we've settled on that.

And his older sister's name is Annabelle Primrose, so something that will go with that nicely. In terms of popularity I want something about as popular as Annabelle, so not quite top 10, but nothing massively 'out there' either.

I like those names, but they're all popular here too.
Monty is similar sounding or even Jonty (though the latter isn't my cup of tea)
Edward - Eddie
Billy
Bertie is lovely and starting to pick up in popularity round here.

thenewzealandstory · 07/02/2019 13:55

Bertie also has the advantage of having Robert or Albert on the BC

GB54 · 07/02/2019 14:02

I really like Henry! Or Edward with nickname Teddy.

thenewzealandstory · 07/02/2019 14:12

Barnaby is nice too

The 3 names you listed are all very popular.
I don't like Theodore at all and Theo is overused.
Edward is nice.
My favourite is definitely Charlie.

Twisique · 07/02/2019 19:35

Barney!

MelinaM · 07/02/2019 23:30

Edward nn Teddy perhaps? Edward George.

Henry George is lovely.

Mumtobe193 · 07/02/2019 23:54

Not too keen on Edward if I'm honest

Foraminutethere · 07/02/2019 23:59

Just Ted is nice. Teddy is too babyish. Horrifically popular too.

I know a lot of Henry's and they've all had the horrid Henry crap.
