Has anyone used this to amend their child’s name ?

I don’t remember what space 17 is ? But if you mean the section at the bottom(?) yes I went back to the council & got my daughters name changed. It needs to be witnessed & reissued as obviously yours is only a copy of the original.

To change the birth certificate rather than go via deed poll etc your child needs to be under one & not already christened / baptised - otherwise it’s really simple

Yes child is under 12 months ! The longer name is used and registered although since day 1 she has been known as shorten version which is a name in its own right and we want this to be her ‘ official ‘ name! If done before has this ever caused any issues when applying for say passport etc ...

If not christened / baptised then the change is done on the original birth certificate and so for things like passports etc you don’t have to use ‘formerly known as’. So no it causes no issues whatsoever. We stuck a new name on the front and once doctors etc were updated it’s been pretty much forgotten about. She’s 4 & there was no issue applying for passport etc.

Yes also done it with my first. Best thing I ever did, and may be doing it again with 3rd child.

I don't see the problem in using the shorter version and keeping longer on birt cert? People do that everyday, kim kimberly, Josh Joshua

Hi Honeybee, I think I may be joining this a little late, but yes, a space 17 is fairly easy to arrange... You will need to fill in the official form and take it to the register office with the £40 fee. (The fee was introduced earlier this year). The main body of the registration doesn't change, but the new forenames are recorded in the space at the bottom of the register page (space 17) so any certificates issued after the change has been made will look the same with the addition of the new names at the bottom. Your original certificates will no longer be legal, and should be destroyed or handed in to the register office.
