Everyone I speak to thinks I’m crazy and it’s the hormones but I have always loved noun and verb names. The surname is very common and so I’ve always wanted their forename to stand out.

I love Rocket but DH has said I am mad. Other names I love are Tiger and Canon.

Please can I have any more suggestions of noun names that won’t make my DH think I’ve lost the plot

I like reading but Book is a bit short. How about Leaflet, Brochure or Compendium?

starkid · 01/02/2019 13:46

Some of the suggestions are hilarious 🤣

I think nature/animal/colour names can work to a degree, but Canon?!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/02/2019 13:50

Well op has asked for unusual names
We're hardly going to suggest Olivia and Olivia are we.

Boys:
Fulcrum
Funicular
Mortificado

Girls:
Courgette (French innit, ergo classy)
Beret (oh, more French!)
Ulna

“I like reading but Book is a bit short. How about Leaflet, ”
Leaflet has a nice Scandi vibe for a boy. Pamphlet for a girl-Pam for short?

BarbaraMiceland · 01/02/2019 16:14

Chair
Plate (perhaps short for Plato?)
Stool

BarbaraMiceland · 01/02/2019 16:15

I did once see a documentary about an American family who had a son named Fuel.

frogsbreath · 01/02/2019 16:19

Brick. Wasn't there a kid on tv called Brick?
Also, Blanket?

Anonanonanariston · 01/02/2019 16:23

Radiator
Wet-wipe
Hovercraft
Jog
Haircut

MikeUniformMike · 01/02/2019 19:02

Talking of scandi vibes, could you not pop to Ikea and look for inspiration on product names.

Speaking of furniture, Chester seems to be quite popular. Draws as a mn.

daisypond · 01/02/2019 19:14

Rocket? Like the salad leaf? I know a Jet. Canon like the member of the clergy or the great works of English literature? Or Cannon like the gun? How about Kit instead of Tiger? Or other nature names might work - some are quite established - River, Heath, etc.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 01/02/2019 19:17

if you like Rocket, what about

Mizuna
Borage
Ooba
Spinach
Iceberg

RitaConnors · 01/02/2019 19:17

Rocket is too peppery. I like Watercress or Pea-shoot.

LynetteScavo · 01/02/2019 19:30

Canon is a bit bonkerz.

I do like Rocket...but kids don't always live up to their names. I know a really miserable Joy. Rocket is going to be really slow.

LynetteScavo · 01/02/2019 19:33

I also like Tiger.

Miles

Star

Red (ok, it's not a noun)

Matt

Sky

Logan

DontGoIntoTheLongGrass · 01/02/2019 19:38

Canon? 🤣 He'd have to have big balls to carry that off!

Grin oh brilliant, that made me lol.

My offerings are Table or Wardrobe. Nicknames Tabby and Wardy.

daisypond · 01/02/2019 19:42

In post-revolutionary Russia there was a craze for revolutionary names - so things like Tractor or Dynamite. Maybe there was Rocket as well, I don't know. But they've all dated badly now.

MikeUniformMike · 01/02/2019 19:43

They might be dated in Russia, but they're fresh and modern here. How about Sputnik?

daisypond · 01/02/2019 19:50

I've just looked a few up - they also had names like Guillotine, Commune, Hammer...and Shift - there's a name to bring joy into your heart.

Bumblebeesmum · 01/02/2019 20:08

Camembert

Lots of nickname potential; Cam, Bertie, Bear, Member....

HarrietSchulenberg · 01/02/2019 23:50

Until we had children, exH used to insist his offspring would be called Spigot and Fishfinger. Mercifully he changed his mind just in time. So they're still up for grabs if anyone wants 'em.

AutumnCrow · 02/02/2019 09:38

@daisypond, I've found a list, these are wonderful names I'm reading! That's my Saturday morning sorted ... (sorry, DP)

Atheist
Arctic Camp
Electrification
Textile

I think Revdit ('revolutionary child') has some serious Islington legs.

tammytoby · 02/02/2019 09:50

Christian

daisypond · 02/02/2019 10:43

AutumnCrow There are some crackers, aren't there? I've always known about Tractor. But I didn't know about Tractorina for a girl.
