Imogen - OK, but not my style, but it is fine.
Emilia - I do like it, but I think Amelia is better.
Eva - too bland now. There are loads of them as well.

Louie - just looks odd. Louis is the spelling. I'd assume Louie was a girl. Elliot - like it
Samuel - like it.

Lou-ee is the pronunciation for Louis...

Not, in Germany, Holland, Scandinavia, US etc people pronounce Louis as Lou-is.

I know it is originally a French name, but names evolve over time. The US city of St Louis has always been called St Lou-is.

We don't spell other names phonetically, and 'Louie' probably was once gibberish too!

And now the Louie spelling has become MORE popular than the Louis spelling in the UK.

tammy, lots of names are pronounced differently in different parts of the world. Louie looks naff and Louis is a prince.
Compare it to Catherine, which is pronounced Catrine in France, would you suggest spelling it Cathryn?

LittleTopic · 29/01/2019 17:49

I love Emilia - and that spelling too!

I think your name choices are all lovely and because of that, they're all fairly (maybe too?) popular.

Maybe look at some of the names lower down in the lists of popularity and see if any sound right?

Morgana, Rowan, Sophia, Genevieve, Harriet, Leah, Hannah
I can't think of any nicer boys names! My own Ds is Ben.

@tammytoby I'm aware the Louie spelling is
more popular right now, but that's not the point. You're questioning why anyone would spell the name 'Louis' because it's pronounced Louie. I'm pointing out that we don't spell other names phonetically.
Also LOTS of names are pronounced differently in other countries, as Mike said.
You seem incredibly defensive about the whole thing!
Louie is a perfectly valid spelling these days, but I think Louis is a beautiful spelling and looks miles better. You'll probably find Louis spelling becomes more popular now due to the Prince.
