I often hear that this is a stripper name. Why? Is it really awful? I think it sounds sweet and wholesome and a bit old fashioned. What are your thoughts please?

It reminds me of that Joan Jett song Cherry Bomb.

I think it's OK as a nickname but it doesn't feel like a full name to me. I like Cerys which is sort of similar!

BartonHollow · 23/01/2019 22:53

She will get Popped jokes throughout secondary

PointlessUsername · 23/01/2019 22:53

I think its a nice name.

Butterfly84 · 23/01/2019 22:54

Prepare yourself for an influx of 'yes it's a stripper name. Are you going to call your other child Apple? Imagine an adult Cherry' etc.

I like it. I can imagine an adult Cherry. And I don't think she'd be out of place from other popular names like Evie, Lexi etc. It's a nice name.

Ribbonsonabox · 23/01/2019 22:55

I've known two people called Cherry and both were older than me and very posh so I dont associate it with strippers at all!

starzig · 23/01/2019 22:55

I know of an adult cherry pie.

BlanketSky · 23/01/2019 22:56

Cherry Bomb by Ash for me! I agree it doesn't sound like a full name somehow. I don't think stripper though.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 23/01/2019 23:03

One of the Eastenders characters has called her baby that on the show...not sure how that helps but I hadn't really come across the name before.

WrapAndRoll · 23/01/2019 23:21

It's OK as a nickname for Cheryl.

Picknickers · 23/01/2019 23:41

Eeek. I already have a Carys. Maybe that's why I like it!

It could be short for Cherith.

OutPinked · 24/01/2019 15:49

It makes me think of Cherry Healy most of all but yeah, I suppose I can see the stripper connotation...

daisypond · 24/01/2019 15:49

I'd be concerned about "popping your cherry" connotations. But I still quite like it. Cerise? Probably too close to Carys.

Flamingosnbears · 24/01/2019 16:01

I think it sweet with a vintage vibe...

haverhill · 24/01/2019 16:06

"Hello world, I'm your wild girl!"

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I quite like it but agree that she may get teased about popping when she's a teenager.

legolammb · 24/01/2019 18:26

She'll be teased relentlessly at school because of the connotations

Sophronia · 24/01/2019 20:58

I quite like it.

Ngaio2 · 24/01/2019 21:13

I like it but unfortunately nowadays it’s not appropriate because of the jokey factors. Such a shame.

Picknickers · 24/01/2019 22:35

I hadn't thought of the popping thing. That's put me right off!

I went to school with a girl named Cherry, full name Cherida. She was never, ever teased for her name and I hadn’t even thought of the popping cherry thing! (And I’m 27 so not an old prude or anything!) I like it 😀

Gillyhicks · 26/01/2019 13:49

It’s my name and I’ve never been teased about it! Most people comment that it’s pretty and unusual, I like that it’s a nature name and it’s old fashioned, Charles Dickens had a Cherry in one of his novels. If you like it, I would use it. I also like that it’s unusual but everyone knows how to spell it.

Blondieblond · 26/01/2019 13:56

I don't think teenagers use the phrase 'popping your cherry' in 2019. So highly doubt future teens will!
