Winter or Eden?

And if you hate them both, what else might I like? Very complicated surname so would prefer 2 syllables and easy to spell. Oh and it's for a girl...

Love Winter, beautiful name. Would have been a top contender for my unborn baby if he wasn't a boy Grin

IVflytrap · 23/01/2019 18:36

I think I would go with Eden over Winter or Aura. Aurora instead?

Other suggestions:
Iris. Jasmine. Aster. Aria. Cora. Luna. Briar. Zara. Cleo. Sylvie. Edith. Lara. Lyra. Eira. Orla. Alba.

Shadow1234 · 23/01/2019 19:39

Anya?

ZebraKid71 · 23/01/2019 22:39

I love winter! I've never met one in really life but I think it's so lovely.

Eden is really popular in my area so that puts me off.

My favourite nature name is Sequoia!

lakehouse · 24/01/2019 13:41

Raven is nice too. I'm not necessarily a nature name kind of person...or maybe I am. Seems pretty split winter v Eden with maybe a leaning towards winter. So hard!

Winter is my favourite girls name, and love Win or Winnie for short. I'm due in July so not sure I can use it and DH doesn't like it much 😩

bridgetreilly · 24/01/2019 21:27

I don't really like either, sorry. How about:
Linnet
Robin
Hazel
Lois

Ngaio2 · 24/01/2019 21:40

Winter is goood. Eden has become very common ad is rather a plain name, somehow

Astronica · 25/01/2019 12:33

I prefer Winter, but Eden is fine too. I adore Autumn though, and like Summer a lot. I don't think there's any problem with using them no matter what season they are born in. In fact I like it better when the connection isn't so obvious. A child born in winter can be called Autumn or Summer because the parents love the association and the name, surely?

TatianaLarina · 25/01/2019 19:14

I dislike both, but if I had to choose it would be Winter.

Eden sounds dreadful with a Lunnon accent - it comes out Eydern.

lakehouse · 25/01/2019 20:43

What's a Lunnon accent? I can't hear it when I say it out loud as you've written?

What about Eve ?

Fusioluxe · 25/01/2019 23:00

Both

Utterly

Gorgeous

💜

Miljah · 25/01/2019 23:27

I am mentally putting Winter and Eden with every surname I can come up with.

Sorry, none work. All a bit try-hard.

wineandcatsandlego · 25/01/2019 23:32

All i can picture is Willow when I read your suggestions, which doesn't help you much I'm afraid! Greatly dislike Eden though - that was the name of the girl my last boyfriend cheated on me with (so please feel free to ignore my bias!)

TatianaLarina · 26/01/2019 10:31

Lunnon = London.

snowybird1 · 26/01/2019 12:13

Bit try hard IMO.

lakehouse · 26/01/2019 12:22

Interesting comments re try hard. Try hard to what? What associations would you make with these names? Not offended, just interested in what people would think before meeting!

tammytoby · 26/01/2019 12:34

I never understand the 'try hard' comments either. Shouldn't we try very hard to find a lovely name for our children?!

Nonameyet1 · 26/01/2019 13:06

I have an Eden, she’s 2, we call her Edie, Edes and Eden and people seem to love her name.
We didn’t ‘try too hard’ to pick her name - I taught a pupil with this name 10 years ago and she was a lovely girl with a lovely name.

I like Winter too. It’s less popular if that’s something you are thinking about.

There are some really nice suggestion on here too.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 14:38

Look at you, OP, trying too hard to pick a name you love for your child. Tsk. Put aside your silly pretensions and call her Emily, or Girl A.

(I like them both but would probably plump for Eden)

Planetmn · 26/01/2019 14:43

Ignore those that say you’re trying too hard, they are gorgeous names and people don’t like gorgeous names when they haven’t used them 🙄

lakehouse · 26/01/2019 15:10

No I'm really interested in what @snowybird1 and @Miljah mean as try hard can be so many things. Trying hard to be posh, middle class, chavvy, cool, edgy, conformist... so many associations there could be. I'm curious what these names would make you think I'm trying hard to be!

I'm fairly high profile (not celeb) so people will judge whatever name I choose. Hence best to be prepared for what people will say.

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 26/01/2019 17:00

I know three Winters, all boys and five Edens, four girls and a boy.

They're very popular at the moment.

Scandaloso · 26/01/2019 17:08

Darkgreener says there were 97 girls and 7 boys called Winter registered in 2017. So they're pretty rare really.

Eden is much more popular for both.
