Name that rhymes with father's name

Is this a big issue? My partner and I have very different tastes in names and all of a sudden both agree on a name for a boy. The problem is, the shortening that I like and would use rhymes with the shortened version of my partner's name. I kept thinking that the name flowed well with his surname... Now it makes sense! The full names don't rhyme, however.

E.g. Stanley and Daniel = Stan and Dan, or actually Martyn and Bartholomew = Mart and Bart is more accurate as there isn't a similar sound between the names at all in their full forms

Am I overthinking or is that weird?

Does your partner use the shortened version of his name?

He uses it less so now he's an adult (we met as teens), but he does use it

Anyone else?

I don't think it's an issue, my own parents named me a name that rhymes with both of their names. Both the long version and the frequently used short form, we all use both versions. Writing it down sounds really stupid, but it's not that weird.

Except my older sibling has a completely different sounding name. I can't think of any way to elaborate on the names without it being very revealing!

Like Timothy and James - Tim and Jim? I think it's totally fine. No one will really notice and if they do they'll probably think it's sweet rather than weird. If it's a name you both like then go for it!

Sorry I think name your baby as you see fit, if the name rhymes that’s good, if not it doesn’t matter. You’ll know what’s right once you meet him/her

Tim and Jim is a much better example than what I could think of - thank you!

I think it’s fine

I think it's fine, as long as the names aren't strange.

My cousin has done this, her husband and her 2 DSs names all rhyme but the DS names are made up and sound ridiculous. They're so unique I can't say the real ones, but imagine

Dad - Jamie
DS1 - Jadie
DS2 - Jacie
