Not pregnant yet but meet a wee baby called this recently and I think I love it. Am I mad or is it great?

Beautiful, strong, confident, feminine. I love it too! Smile

SPARKS17 · 21/01/2019 05:50

I like it, had a great great aunt called Augusta and she was known as Gussie.

Astronica · 21/01/2019 06:17

I'm not a fan of it. She will always be Jane Austen's Mrs Elton for me.

tammytoby · 21/01/2019 07:07

Beautiful name!

RedDwarves · 21/01/2019 08:43

Awful. It sounds so matronly. Also, just reminds me of Port Augusta.

Hundredacrewoods · 21/01/2019 08:45

Have you considered August? I think it sounds nicer than Augusta because the emphasis isn't on the 'gus'

tammytoby · 21/01/2019 09:00

But August is a male name Hmm

I like Augusta!

PrimeExample · 21/01/2019 09:02

Love it! I met one recently and she lives up to the bame - strong and gutsy!

Inktank · 21/01/2019 09:42

It sounds hard and stuffy to me, sorry.

RiverTam · 21/01/2019 09:45

Awful. It just sounds so....... hefty. Portentous. Loaded.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 21/01/2019 09:46

I'd prefer Augusta over a made up name!

RiverTam · 21/01/2019 09:49

err, who says those are the only 2 choices?? What a peculiar thing to say.

SlimGin · 21/01/2019 12:28

I prefer August too as the emphasis is on 'aug' rather than 'gust' which is not a nice sound.

Kokeshi123 · 21/01/2019 12:57

I also don't like the "Gust" bit.

Here are some names beginning with "Au"...

Elphabaisnotwicked · 21/01/2019 13:00

I think I prefer Augustina.

Ffsnosexallowed · 21/01/2019 13:01

We're watching Charlie and the chocolate factory just now. Augusta Gloop anyone?

tammytoby · 21/01/2019 13:53

I think you mean Augustus Gloop, the fat boy.

Augusta is a beautiful name for a girl!

MikeUniformMike · 21/01/2019 14:17

Awful sorry. Gussie nn likely.

GraceMarks · 21/01/2019 16:09

I knew one years ago - she was incredibly posh and generally used to be known as Gus. I quite like it but it's a big name to live up to, if you see what I mean. A timid girl might be a bit overwhelmed by the weight of it!

ZebraKid71 · 21/01/2019 18:58

I know of 2 female August's and think it works really well for a girl as well as a boy.

Augusta is OK, but I prefer just August.

Never heard of either of the ones I know getting gussie! They are usually full named but one does get Auz or Auggy.

hermionegranger · 21/01/2019 20:17

I love the name and think it's powerful, but had a school friend who was named Augusta and she loathed it. Said it made her feel like a musty old great aunt. She went by Gus until she went to University when she decided to go by her middle name instead.

DramaAlpaca · 21/01/2019 20:37

Nope, I don't like it. It's very pompous.

littlem133 · 21/01/2019 20:45

Augustus Gloop?!

tammytoby · 21/01/2019 20:51

Augustus is a boy's name! As is August.

Augusta, Augustine are girls names.

FartnissEverbeans · 22/01/2019 16:31

I love it, and I think inlove August (for a girl) even more.

I’d be put off by the lack of nice nicknames though. I don’t much like Gus or Auggie.
