Inspired by the Grandad thread!

Mine were Elizabeth and Hilda. One is a great name that I'd use, the other not so much.

molly is a well known old fashioned name that has really come back. my daughter is called molly and i named her that because i'm annie and love the musical so having a daughter called molly i thought would be sweet. in the film annie really looks after her best friend molly. i also love the unsinkable molly brown in titanic, molly from ghost and molly from rabbit proof fence who saved the life of her sister and daughters to a life of being a servant. molly in our girl was very strong too. molly means star of the sea and wished for child

Dorothy and Gwynneth. Great grandmothers I knew were Rose and Edith.

DH grandmother was Elsie May, which seems to be quite popular again!

Marjory (Marj) and Mary I think. Dd's mum died when he was young and he'd never talk about his family.
DH's are Helena and Winifred Marjory (goes by Marjory).
I also had an Aunty Winifred who we weren't actually related to but was like a Grandma to me.

Molly as a shortening for Mary?

drspouse · 10/02/2019 11:48

Yes, both Molly and Polly are traditional nicknames for Mary.

Mary and Elsie, but she hated Elsie so used her middle name May.

Alice and Florence

Jessie and Ivy. I love both of these names .

Judith and Jean. I'd have used Judith but was blessed with 3 DS's and Judith would be an odd choice for them Grin. I let Jean die with my Grandma.

Eldest DS has William in his name which was DH's grandfathers name. Middle DS has Timothy in his, which is my DF's name. We ran out of older relative names by DS3...
