Cassia or Cassie on bc?

Stelllastar · 19/01/2019 15:23

We love Cassie for a girl but I can’t stand Cassandra or Cassiopoiea (just find them very fussy) and think it’s a bit much with dd4’s name (Margot). So we’re left with either Cassia on bc with nn Cassie or just Cassie. Opinions?

I'd say just Cassie.

2019Reasons · 19/01/2019 15:25

Cassie on its own is fine, but I personally think Cassia is a beautiful name (far nicer than Cassandra) and would be a nice option for her to use later on if she chooses.

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 15:30

Both are lovely but I'd probably but Cassia on the birth cert as it is so gorgeous, as well as being totally usable. I agree with you that Cassiopoiea is way too fussy. Imagine shouting that across the Tesco aisles.

PippilottaLongstocking · 19/01/2019 15:32

How would you pronounce it? Presumably like Cassi-a? The only Cassia I’ve met was pronounced Casha so be aware that people might muddle it up but otherwise it’s a really lovely name!

MrsSchadenfreude · 19/01/2019 15:34

Cassia.

BigusBumus · 19/01/2019 15:37

If she will be known as Cassie, just name her Cassie on the birth certificate. Saves so much explaining etc. I have a Harry who is Harry on the bc. Easy peasy.

AuntieOxident · 19/01/2019 15:40

Cassia is lovely and also gives her a choice of names she can use when she’s older.
I could see a teenager might prefer Cassie (also lovely) but Cassia is a bit more unusual and might suit her!

BabloHoney · 19/01/2019 15:44

Love both!! I think Cassie is fine on its own x

NamelessEnsign · 19/01/2019 15:48

How about Cassidy? Nn Cassie

ZebraKid71 · 19/01/2019 15:55

I love Cassia!

gentlyscented · 19/01/2019 15:55

Cassie x

Stelllastar · 19/01/2019 15:55

I think we’re going to go for Cassia on the bc- you’re all right in that it gives her a choice and it is also a very elegant, beautiful name (in my opinion)

Cassie Star - (or Smith or whatever) very nice, girl next door.
But Dr Cassia Star/Smith has a certain ring to it. Also Cassia Smith QC...
Yeah, yeah I know it sounds snobbish but there’s a grain of truth in it too.
As for the pronunciation, Casha sounds as if it’s the US way, like Aleesha for Alicia (Ali-si-a on this side of the pond, with the first ‘i’ short rather than long ). Similarly, I think most people would say Cass-e-a here.

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 15:59

I think you would get equal division between people pronouncing it cash-a and cass-ee-a.

Stelllastar · 19/01/2019 16:01

Really? It never even occurred to me that it would be pro uou fed Cash-a. I don’t think it’s too much of a problem- people would remember after being corrected once

Actually I've just remembered that one of Boris Johnson's daughters is called Cassia. But she may be a lovely person.

Stelllastar · 19/01/2019 16:01

Pro ou fed?? Grin *pronounced

There's the French name Cassiane which is really pretty.

Cosmoa · 19/01/2019 16:31

Definitely Cassia 😍

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 19/01/2019 19:05

Cassia is beautiful.

ZebraKid71 · 19/01/2019 20:47

My name is very similar to cassia, and I get both the cass-ee-ah and cash-uh pronunciations. I think you'd get Cash-uh a fair bit in the uk as Kasia is a popular polish nickname and is pronounced that way.

RedDwarves · 19/01/2019 21:39

Cassia.

I have grown to really like this name, the more I hear it (on here - never heard it IRL).

wejammin · 19/01/2019 21:41

Love Cassia so much. It was DC3s name if she was a girl. He was a boy though Grin

redredvino · 19/01/2019 21:41

Cassie is lovely

Montouley · 19/01/2019 21:47

I have a Cassia and it's never been pronounced "Casha" by anyone. It can easily adapt to the nickname Cassie.
