For a French/British baby girl... Can't decide if I like it a lot or if it sounds hideously earnest and awkward!

I like it, but she will be Clemmie before long! I also like Claudie.

Ribbonsonabox · 16/01/2019 20:34

I really like it but think it sounds a bit boyish if used in the UK... people might think you are saying Clement...
I think in the uk I'd go for Clementine as it's what people are more familiar with for a girl.

If you are in France a lot of the time that's not as much of an issue though...

Colorbomb · 16/01/2019 20:34

It’s just beautiful but if she is growing up in UK majority of people will struggle to pronounce and shortening is inevitable. Or she will be “Clem-ence” which is not so nice! She can always correct people I guess...

Littleloaf · 16/01/2019 20:35

Clemmie is sweet! People round here don't seem to go in for children's nicknames though... Our older daughter has a three-syllable name and no-one has ever tried to shorten it

Growing up in France, but already made that mistake with her sister's name. I thought Elena was quite straightforward but very few Brits can pronounce it in the way we prefer, and she usually ends up being called Eleanor instead

I LOVE it. It’s always been on my girls list even though I have a London accent Grin sad I have two boys and a third on the way. Use it!

GhostSauce · 16/01/2019 20:59

I love it.

ChoccyBiccyTastic · 16/01/2019 21:31

Lovely. Immediately brings to mind the beautiful Clémence Poésy.

Ipanema01 · 16/01/2019 21:47

I meant to type alas! Not sad ! V happy to have lovely boys Smile

tammytoby · 17/01/2019 12:51

Clémence is beautiful and very easy to say! Don't shorten it, it's lovely.

Nocturnalpearl · 17/01/2019 13:01

It’s beautiful!

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2019 13:05

I love the French pronounciation and not shortening it

TurquoiseDress · 17/01/2019 18:08

I love the name just as it is- go for it!

Chewbecca · 17/01/2019 18:16

Very pretty but I always feel a bit sorry for people with names that have accents on them, we are not well set up to accommodate them!
How about Clementine?

EngagedAgain · 17/01/2019 18:23

I think it's lovely. I also like Celine, not just because of Celine Dion, whom I happen to like anyway, plus her name.

GummyGoddess · 17/01/2019 18:34

The sound is nice but the meaning doesn't have a good association.

Highlowpo · 17/01/2019 18:40

Very pretty. I would suggest a very obviously 'girl's' middle name just so when her name is written on a register etc in years to come it's obvious she's a girl. I imagine at first glance it could be mistaken for Clement.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 17/01/2019 19:24

Lovely but hate Clemmie!

BrightStarrySky · 17/01/2019 19:26

BEAUTIFUL

Maliea · 17/01/2019 19:50

I initially thought it was for a boy.

I also wonder how to pronounce it.

Evaevie · 17/01/2019 19:56

Can I ask what the French pronounciation is? Have no idea- I would have said Clem-ence

Evaevie · 17/01/2019 19:57

But love the nn Clemmie

JassyRadlett · 17/01/2019 20:00

Mild, merciful, gentle?

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 17/01/2019 20:01

Evaevie it’s prounounced somewhere between Clay Monce (short sound on the A) and Cle Monce.

It was on our list but too but we chose Clèmentine instead. We also live in France but the kids are half English. Had a few people say Clementyne but not many.

GummyGoddess · 17/01/2019 20:06

As in associated with judges granting clemency. The actual meaning is fine, the association with the courts and criminals not so much.
