The next baby name wave?

I'm interested in how to spot where names are going to go next out of curiosity and thinking ahead a little bit. I hated having an old fashioned name when I was at school. Equally I felt sorry for the kids for whom there were loads of others in the year group (Hannah, Laura, Gemma were abundant when I was a kid).

I like the idea of finding a name that is ahead of the wave, as it always makes the adult seem quite young and cool even when they're not haha! Eg I know a 30 year old Alfie, and about six 2 year old Alfie's! So many parents I know complain that their child's name became popular as soon as they were born.

Obviously turn of the century / wartime/granny / grandad names like Evie, Iris, Ivy, Albert, Archie are super popular right now, but what will be the next trend? Does it follow that 60's and 60's names will be the next thing? Susan, Barbara, Mike anyone??!

Kirstie if i were the name police there would be a list. There'd be no rhyme or reason I would just decide to knock off names i was bored of.

Brian Cox is as far away from the ‘Essex’ stereotype as can be. Same as Sharon Stone, Kevin Bacon and Tracy Ullman.

Interesting article on Kevin in France. I know it boomed in Germany as well but I always thought that was because of Kevin Keegan. Maybe not.

Some of the French names in that article are gorgeous - so much really does depend on accent and how it sounds to you.

And that cute little pageboy Brian at Meghan and Wotsit's wedding 😁

I do think suggesting Sharon, Tracy, Wayne, Gary etc for the next wave is very pre-emptive.
It’ll be our children having their own children in 30 years time when we see 50s names come back I think.

I do hope Gary and Nigel don’t ever come back. I find the names hideous.

I’m surprised Betty isn’t really popular yet, maybe it’s got another 10 years to go. It seems to be from the right era (up to 20s-40s) and is quite cute which people seem to like.
