Is Grace still really popular?

Have a newborn DD so the clock is ticking!

We love the name Grace but really don't want her to be one of several everywhere she goes. I know it was super popular a few years ago but is that still true?

How many Graces do you know and how old are they? We're in Surrey.

Thank you

Grace was the 13th most popular girls name in 2017, so still relatively popular.

The link below shows how Grace’s popularity has trended since 1996.

If you both really like it, go for it.
There's no saying that if you chose a slightly more unusual name that anothe4 family wouldn't be having the exact same thoughts.

Inktank · 15/01/2019 00:14

I can think of two of secondary age, none of primary age.

^ Well if that's not enough to put you off a name..

No I'm joking, it's a lovely name. Go for it and congratulations!!

TanishaKeys · 15/01/2019 01:32

Indeed, Karen Grin

I've been on the dark greener website but it's difficult to know how that translates into real life, which is why I'm asking here for people's experiences. Is it one of those names that's 'everywhere'?

I know 2, one is late 20s and the other is 6.

Smile19 · 15/01/2019 01:53

Go for it if you love Grace. My son's name wss number 19 when he was born. Only know one other his age (and they aren't at the same school). In his class there isn't a Grace, there are however 3 Amelias and 2 Avas and we know others - both popular for good reason. There isn't a grace at my other son's nursery either.

My DD has a number 44 name. Not met another yet her age.

If you look at her and you think Grace, then that's her name.

Congratulations OP.

I know of one 3 year old Grace.

Onebrokentoe · 15/01/2019 02:28

I love the name. We have a Grace in our family, she’s 15. Now that I think about it I only know one other. For such a popular name, where are they all?

SuchAToDo · 15/01/2019 02:50

I think grace has been popular for a long time, (I have a 27 year old cousin called grace)...a while back I saw a movie and the lead woman character was named Gracie...it's a pretty name and just a bit different from grace so she won't be one of several everywhere she goes

sunshineandshowers21 · 15/01/2019 03:08

i’m a primary teacher and there’s only one grace in our entire school! it doesn’t seem to be as popular around here as a first name - but quite popular as a middle name.

TheDowagerCuntess · 15/01/2019 03:41

It's still popular, but it's also one of the three default, filler middle names for girls, so probably seems more popular.

Sessy19 · 15/01/2019 07:13

I agree with PP that, sadly, Grace seems to have become that monosyllabic in-between middle name, so it has (to me) become redundant. Unimaginative.

It sounds a bit clumpy to me, but only because its not to my taste.

Which is a shame, because there’s nothing wrong with it, per ce.

I think it’s popularity as a first name has waned though. It’s probably more 6-10yos bracket. I know 6 girls called Grace, all in Surrey!

ReginaPhalange89 · 15/01/2019 08:42

I don't personally know any, although my cousin is due a baby in a few months and her baby will be Grace.

It's such a lovely name but it's definitely been made a bit bland because of how popular it was. I think people used it a lot as a middle name . There are lots of little Ava Grace, Lily Grace, Macy Grace etc in my wee girls school.

It's nice on its own though, congratulations on your new baby !

chipsnmayo · 15/01/2019 09:59

@SuchAToDo My DD is a Gracie (who is 20, so quite rare back then) and she often gets called Grace so it still falls in the Grace category. I was naive in thinking she would be different from all the other Graces...

MsTSwift · 15/01/2019 19:08

My 2 late primary/ secondary they have at least one per class. Sadly each of the different ones in my dds Graces respective classes are awful

Haworthia · 15/01/2019 19:10

It’s massively popular as a middle name (Rose, May/Mae/Mai are easily the top 3) but not so much as a first name, IMO.

MonkeyfaceThereturn · 15/01/2019 19:12

My eldest is Grace. She's 12 and bloody gorgeous so I'm biased.

Call your baby Grace.

OutPinked · 16/01/2019 12:28

DS has a Grace and Gracie in his year (year 4). Its more common as a middle name I think.
