It depends on where you live, I suppose.
Cole is very middle class to upper middle class name in the U.S, however, the poster above thinks it make become chavvy in the UK.
Their recommendation Clay, on the other hand, is considered a very white trash name in the US.

SilverySurfer · 11/01/2019 17:27

Ugly, sorry

ShutTheFridgeUp · 11/01/2019 18:17

I like it

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 11/01/2019 18:19

Was a merry old soul.

I don’t think an English kid can pull it off. It’s different in America, they’re a law unto themselves. I wouldn’t personally.

NeverHadANickname · 11/01/2019 18:34

I really like it.

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 11/01/2019 18:35

Reggie, LOLO!!! No offense taken, and yes, I see your point of view. I think it would be harder, on an English kid, to have this name. You're right. Smile

DramaAlpaca · 11/01/2019 18:40

Bad & ugly.

helpmum2003 · 11/01/2019 18:43

Chavvy round here - sorry.

goldengummybear · 11/01/2019 18:47

I like the Scottish/US vibe of first names that sound like surnames but it's considered super chavvy here. My nephew is a Cole and it's slowly grown on me.

Backhometothenorth · 11/01/2019 21:18

Very chav sorry

uhtredsonofuhtred · 11/01/2019 21:21

Love it

sproutsandparsnips · 11/01/2019 21:38

I know a boy named Cole and he's lovely. Also I love the Box of Delights. I wouldn't have chosen it but I do like it.

FishCanFly · 11/01/2019 21:38

Love Cole or Coleman

Flamingchips · 11/01/2019 22:04

Coleman sounds like someone who makes mustard or sells coal...

Tallie12 · 11/01/2019 22:11

Love it,but I know quite a few older Coles so to me it feels quite classic!

Pancakepoop · 11/01/2019 23:03

I don’t like the sound of it at all, it’s just a bit awkward and dull.

OrdinaryGirl · 11/01/2019 23:31

It's lovely! I'm sure he'd be a merry old soul.

Fairypiggy · 11/01/2019 23:33

I know an 18 month old Cole. I like it.

finallychangedmyusername · 13/01/2019 12:43

I don't mind Cole but love Nicholas and it works as a nickname for Nicholas.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/01/2019 13:02

Awful

parrotfashionista · 13/01/2019 14:01

I really like it

Jayneisagirlsname · 13/01/2019 14:17

Reminds me of Sunset Beach - Cole Deschanel and the Deschanel jewels! Oops, showing age...

slappinthebass · 13/01/2019 23:10

@MissLanesAmericanCousin

Interesting! I've noticed that names that are considered 'too american' mostly by posters here, are the same names usually accused of being chavvy. I guess this is because upper middle class names tend to be either traditional British, or if very unusual then from classical literature, Greek/Roman myths. Rarely a modern name. I suppose American names would be considered modern here. There doesn't seem to be an awareness here between middle class American names and white trash American names. I don't even know if all of the American sounding names are even American. I can't imagine Clay being white trash. Can you give some more examples?
