Would you ask their permission first?

We are thinking of using the name of our fertility doctor.

No because they don't own the name Smile

My DD has a middle name of a living relative. No I didn’t ask but it’s obvious it was after her and I knew she’d be delighted.

Sandsnake · 10/01/2019 21:54

How lovely! I can’t imagine that they would be anything but delighted (and no, I don’t think you would need to ask permission). All the best for your baby!Smile

That’s a lovely idea, I wouldn’t ask permission but I would definitely tell them. It’s a compliment they will carry forever.

Both my children are named after relatives, we didn’t ask permission (I contemplated it with my son but wanted his name to be a surprise)
Both family members were thrilled. Maybe send him/ her an announcement card when they arrive, I’m sure they will feel honoured.

My DS shares a name with my uncle. It's not after him as such, it was just a name we liked, and we didn't ask permission.

However his middle names are after his grandads and we did ask my FIL if he minded us using the Welsh version of his name as our nephew already had his proper name as a middle name and we didn't like the idea of them both having the same middle name as they are so close in age.

MumUnderTheMoon · 11/01/2019 08:21

My dd is named for my mum I didn't use her exact name but both of their names Siri W from the same source. You can use the exact name in this case it's a compliment.

Mothergooseflying · 11/01/2019 08:24

I think your fertility doctor , would find that an honour.
Best Wishes

Lenford Henry was named after the dr who delivered him iirc.

JesLorDad · 11/01/2019 21:26

You'd have to be prepared for them to say no, if you ask.

Nonameyet1 · 12/01/2019 11:45

You don’t need to ask but I agree with others - lovely idea.

Older ds has my df name as his middle name and younger ds has same middle name as his own df and his great grandfather. Ggf had already passed away so didn't ask him but my df was thrilled that ds has his name. Ds loves having his dgf's name too.
I say go for it. He'll be thrilled.

Planning on using my dads name as a middle name for my very soon to be born son. Dads still very much alive and kicking!

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 17/01/2019 20:20

I’m using my dad’s firstname for DS in the spring (William).

It was also my grandad’s name, who I was very close to.

I have told dad that we’re using it and he was well chuffed.
