Advantages of names with multiple pronunciations

Me and DH like a girls name but it can be pronounced three ways.
Can you think of any advantages of having a name that can be pronounced more than one way as we like the name or would it be annoying?

My name can be pronounced 2 ways, one more common than the other. I have the less common pronunciation so tend not to get too bothered by people getting it wrong unless they insist on using the ‘wrong’ version after I’ve corrected them.

What name were you thinking of?

Redvelvet21 · 10/01/2019 21:55

We like Evelyn :

Ever - Lyn

Ev-Lyn

Eve-Lyn

It's so annoying because I can't think of one other girls name with multiple pronunciations!!

I can think of 3 pronunciations for my name- in fact there was a name thread here a few months ago asking how people pronounce it. It is a bit annoying when people don’t ask how your name is pronounced or continue to use the incorrect pronunciation after being corrected, but can’t say it ever bothered me too much

My dd is called Evelyn (Ev Lyn) she’s 6 and it’s never been a problem. Most people correctly assume it’s pronounced ev-Lyn anyway and the very few who got it wrong, once corrected were fine. No drama.
I think it’s such a lovely name (obviously) We always get positive comment about her name and she loves it too.

Naomi
Esme
Keziah
Sara
Genevieve
Clara
Helena

All spring to mind as names with multiple pronounciations. I’m not sure there are advantages as such but many people have these names and get on perfectly well.

If you were really looking for an advantage then if she’s having a teenage experimenting with her identity phase she can go for another pronounciation. You might see that as an advantage or a disadvantage!

I think as most people say - once people have been told once it shouldn’t be an issue and I don’t think it’s a reason not to use it if you love it.
