Please ladies with those of young children what are the most popular names you are hearing?

Just want to see if some of our top runners are popular :)

Baby group names that I've heard more than one of are:
Teddy, William, Oliver, Theo

Olivia, Harriet, Amelia, Poppy

moredoll · 10/01/2019 19:31

DD's name is the only name I've heard repeated, and it's very unusual. (Less than 20 in the country in 2017.) Not telling you what it is because I don't want any more repeats.

@Awwlookatmybabyspider you would think wouldn't you

IceTippedMountains · 10/01/2019 20:01

Thanks guys!

Very pleased Harriet and Margot have only mentioned once and Elliott not at all.

Kind of shocked at how many Ivys (I thought that was rather uniques), Finns and Theos have been mentioned. Also glad Harry has only been mentioned once (very surprised at that)

I do know a few Margots and Martha’s but they’re about 3 years old now so I didn’t think of them

Harriet is lovely

Chocolateheaven123 · 10/01/2019 20:24

Theo! So many Theo's lately. It's a great name but seems to have exploded around here.

I seem to be hearing Florence a lot.

Gumball54 · 10/01/2019 21:03

I’ve only met one Elliot but a few pregnant friends have it on their lists so that could be popular this year. Never met a Margot but noticed it’s very popular on here.
I know a couple Harrys in primary school but no babies/toddlers.

We've met a few Harriets and loads of Ivys OP. No Margots though.

No Elliots but plenty of Theos and Finleys. Harry was popular here when my 6yo was a baby but less so with my younger ones.

We generally have a lot of Theo, Oscar, "belle" names and Aria.

Weirdly there are 2 Augustas in my DS’s class at nursery!

OP no offence but to answer your question accurately you really need to look at the ONS data for 2017. Whatever people say on here isn't really a true reflection of what is popular, just a vague indication at best.

For example- you say Harry hasn't been mentioned, however it's number 2 in the rankings and therefore is incredibly popular!

Redgreencoverplant · 11/01/2019 13:29

Violet, Florence and Dylan and any name ending in Bella

mogtheexcellent · 11/01/2019 13:37

Lots of Harry's and Amelia's near me. We are obviously a bit behind the times.

Dd has a Jennifer in her class which I think is a lovely name and hope it makes a comeback.

tammytoby · 11/01/2019 14:27

Harry was hugely popular a few years ago!

@Claracracksthenut

Margot: 156
Maud: 2502 (you must know the only Maud's in the country!)
Edie: 114

None of those names are even in the top 100

HettyB · 11/01/2019 20:32

The Mauds are 4 and 3. A Royal Maud also exists around same age as Prince George I think?
Edie/ Edith doesn’t seem rare to me I hear it quite a bit.
Margot is definitely not rare around here.
Btw my own DD has a name in the 200’s but you will know it and I bet you have met one. She is one of 2 at her nursery. I think names are very area dependent. I have never met a Nevaeh socially or where I live but certainly have through work!
Maybe the OP should say area she lives to get more relevant advice?
But Theo is popular everywhere and all demographics from what I can tell.

Labmum · 12/01/2019 09:45

A name I think is quite unusual but seems popular near me is Etta. I've met a few at local baby and toddler groups.
