What do you consider 'classic'? I guess Catherine and Elizabeth make the cut?

Another thing about classic names is that they tend to have lots of really good nick name options even apart from the obvious: for instance James can be Jem or Jay, Katherine can be Kat or Kitty, Anne can be Nancy.

All our classically named kids go by nicknames and in some cases different people, like partners and grandparents, have different names for them, which I think is sweet.

Celine isn't a classic name. It's quite nice though. It's a bit of a fashion/celebrity name, but probably ok in french speaking countries.

Celine is an interesting name

Selene was a minor Greek goddess (of the moon - Luna is her Roman counterpart). Selina is an Anglicized spelling variation of that name AND of Celine, which is a French name derived from Caelinus, an ancient Roman family name meaning "heaven" (Latin caelum)

Arguably a classic name either way, what with having been around for literally thousands of years, although I don't think it has ever been particularly popular

Would you say that Iris is classic? And Luna?

OlennasWimple · 10/01/2019 19:47

Iris is classic, I think. I know a baby Iris, one roughly my age and a great grandmother one. It's never been insanely popular but isn't particularly unusual or odd

Luna should be, but I have only heard of little Lunas since the Harry Potter character
