Opinions on Tiffany?

So it’s quite an 80s name now, don’t think it’s in top 100 so unlikely to be another at school?

When I hear Tiffany I think either Breakfast at Tiffany or the jewellery. OH thinks of Eastenders Tiffaneeeee said in a cockney accent 😂 is it tacky and chavvy?

I hate it when a name is slated and there's clearly someone on the thread with a child of that name.
I think it's lovely and would actually seem quite refreshing and unusual now.

peachypetite · 06/01/2019 22:31

Awful.

DressingGownPlease · 06/01/2019 23:06

I knew that a lot of posters on here wouldn't like it...but I like it.

manicinsomniac · 06/01/2019 23:10

I knew a little girl called Tiffany a while ago - I think she'd be 9 now.

I'm not overly keen but I don't dislike it. I do wonder if a subconscious Eastenders association is in my head though because, in theory, it's a name I ought to really like - 3 syllables and a bit frilly!

tammytoby · 07/01/2019 07:32

I don't like it.

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 14:17

It's been ruined by the EE character.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 07/01/2019 15:01

I must be reeeeally lower orders because I don't find Courtney or Chelsea offensive either Grin

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 15:16

Courtney and Chelsea are nice enough names but Courtney became popular from Friends, and Chelsea is a football team.
Courtney is a popular West Indies man's name and probably compares to something like Philip in the UK.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 07/01/2019 16:40

@MikeUniformMike I was just referring to @dalmatianmad 's post further up!

MikeUniformMike · 07/01/2019 16:56

I like Paige but I think it probably would get grouped with Tiff, Cou'ney, Whit and Chelsea.
Years ago, a neighbour called her child Shannon, which I initially misheard as Sharon, and thought it was awfully dated, and when corrected I thought - ah a telly programme name. Shannon's a young mum's name now.

SilverLlama · 07/01/2019 17:04

The Tiffany I know got teased relentlessly and was called Tit-fanny by the boys at school.

jessstan2 · 07/01/2019 17:04

Extremely chavvy.

tammytoby · 07/01/2019 17:06

Tiffany, Tiffy, Fanny all sound unpleasant, sorry.

Mesmeri · 07/01/2019 17:25

The Tiffany I knew at school was extremely tough. Nobody was brave enough to tease her about her name. And no-one wanted to, because it was the 80s and super cool. She was really bright, but terrifying. I quite like the name because I was completely in awe of her... but I can't imagine everyone being to carry it off...

MoggEatMoggWorld · 07/01/2019 17:33

I’m a 90s kid and the pretty popular girls were always called Tiffany in American tv shows etc and I always wished I was called it!

Also there was a lovely girl at my school called it.

percheron67 · 07/01/2019 17:46

Awkward if your surname is Lamp!.

littlemeitslyn · 07/01/2019 17:54

Common

flumpybear · 08/01/2019 01:51

@SilverLlama @Mesmeri
Where vaguely did you go to school?

Franheaton · 08/01/2019 01:56

Stripper or EastEnders.

Pemba · 08/01/2019 02:23

Sorry but it's both chavvy and eighties.

Unfortunately names that appear to come from a brand, or a shop will always lack class. Even when it's a classy shop. So it had the same kind of vibe as Armani I suppose, or Chardonnay. The words have a nice sound, but the associations are tacky.

mathanxiety · 08/01/2019 03:32

There is quite a large population with Greek heritage where I live, with many Tiffanys in younger generations. Initially I couldn't for the life of me figure out how Tiffany could possibly be Greek, but apparently it comes from Theophania, a name related to the feast of the Epiphany, which is a very important feast in the Orthodox churches.

I far prefer Theophania, but my respect for Tiffany as a name has grown since doing a little digging. However I don't think the majority of Tiffanys have any link to the original meaning of the name.

Flossmequick · 08/01/2019 03:38

Its o.k

IdaBWells · 08/01/2019 03:38

I think similar to a Tiffany is Natalie which I have always thought is very pretty and doesn’t seem to be used much these days.

IdaBWells · 08/01/2019 03:39

Or Natalia.
