Talitha - not keen, seems very made up
Ameerah - I really like this, lovely name but you may have spelling issues
Maisie - also quite like, not as popular as it use to be ime.

Boys:
Rogan - really do not like this, seems like a surname
Arlo - nice but it seems to be growing rapidly in popularity and probably will date to the 2010s era.
Elijah -LOVE this, easy to spell and pronounce and not that popular
Jacob - also like but seems a bit meh because of its popularity for so many years;

Talitha, I've never heard of it before but think it's a beautiful name.

moredoll · 05/01/2019 23:04

Maisie
Ammerah
Talitha

Don't much like Anita, sorry

Jacob
Arlo
Elijah

No way Rogan. Josh, readymade curry sauce for when you're in a rush.

Shadow1234 · 05/01/2019 23:16

Love the name Elijah from your boys list
Not keen on any of the girls names tbh

MitziK · 05/01/2019 23:35

Any church school in an urban area will have copious quantities of Elijahs and Jacobs. Going by recent threads, they will be joined by Arlos. Rogan - well, it's different to the ubiquitous Logans but for God's sake, don't give him a second name of Joshua.

Quite a few Talithas are around, too, along with Ameerahs of variable spellings - do you have any Middle Eastern or African heritage? I would have thought not if you're also considering Maisie (which is also very common). Anita - depending on the local accent, think of what 'Oi! Neeeta!/Ni'er!' would sound like bellowed across the playground. Might end up being changed into Annie/Anni, though.

Maybe Tabitha would be something you'd like? Similar, OK there are connotations with cats (even though it means Gazelle) or a TV programme from the 1960s (not that many people remember it), but it's still less common.

ForTheSakeOfTheFox · 06/01/2019 09:45

I really like Anita and Ameerah, although my favourite spelling variation of the latter is Amira.

I'm neutral on Talitha, Elijah, Jacob, and Arlo, but they're all fine.

Not keen on Maisie or Rogan.

MikeUniformMike · 06/01/2019 15:32

Girls:
Anita - nice but old-fashioned
Talitha - nice
Ameerah - sounds arabic. spelling issues likely
Maisie - very different to the other 3

Boys:
Rogan - josh
Arlo - essex
Elijah - little boy's name
Jacob- fine

Icklepup · 06/01/2019 16:07

Maisie or Elijah

ForAMinuteThere · 06/01/2019 20:43

Anita = middle aged woman

Elijah is my favourite there along with Maisie. Not keen on Rogan, sorry.

TatianaLarina · 06/01/2019 21:38

Talitha - gorgeous! Much prefer to Tabitha.

And Jacob

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 06/01/2019 21:45

Elijah and Talitha, both lovely.

Not Anita please. It's in the same book as Carol, Brenda and Diane.

manicinsomniac · 06/01/2019 23:24

Anita - It's ok. Pretty dated though and hasn't made a comeback yet. But then, going for that generation of names is the way to guarantee being unusual in her generation. I teach a little girl called Deborah which I have never come across in anyone under at least 30 in the last 15 years. I think Anita fits the same bracket.

Talitha - I really, really like this. Which is strange as I don't like Tabitha. But I think it ticks all the boxes of classic/traditional yet unusual and elegant, pretty and timeless.

Ameerah - I have always thought of this as an Arabic, Muslim name. But just googled and seen it also has Hebrew and Swahili roots so I guess it could be used quite happily by the majority! It's pretty. I think I prefer the spelling Amira.

Maisie - I like it. It's perhaps a little bit cutesie not to have a longer, more formal version (or at least I don't think it does). Having said that, I can imagine a quirky, independent adult Maisie.

Rogan - I'm not consciously aware of this name but instantly added Josh to it so I must have heard it somewhere. Not sure who Rogan Josh is though. I think I quite like it but much prefer Logan or Rowan.

Arlo - I really like this. Keep seeing on mumsnet that it's everywhere and super trendy/will date but I am yet to meet a little Arlo and I've been a teacher for 12 years.

Elijah - Really like it. A decade or so ago I would have assumed you were Jewish but I now know loads of Christians who have gone for previously rare old testament names too. They've definitely made a comeback (led by people looking for something less popular than Noah perhaps_.

Jacob - Really like it. Like the nn Jake too. It covers all bases for me. Cute, mischievous little Jake and more serious, educated Jacob.

I'd go with Talitha and Jacob.

Astronica · 07/01/2019 04:30

Maisie and Jacob. Talitha is okay as well. Not a fan of the others.

Mothergooseflying · 07/01/2019 06:21

Maisie - Pretty traditional strong
Jacob - strong no fuss.
