Traditional or Unique??

We are expecting our first baby in March and are undecided as to whether we go with a fairly traditional name or to maybe have something quite unique. We currently have 3 lists:

Girls:
Sofia
Eleanor
Eloise
Willow
Elise
Alannah

Boys:
Chester
Arlo
Finn

Unisex:
Marley (boy)
Marlee (girl)

Suggestions and opinions are most welcome...

I like Eleanor, Eloise and Elise out of your girl options. I prefer Sophia to Sofia, unless you've got links to a country that spells it that way. Not keen on the others.
Not keen on the boy options at all.
Don't like either Marley or Marlee.

Sofia or Elise or Finn.

Chester and Marlee are particularly grim.

Sorry I missed off Raine from the girls list...🤔

I have a mental image of a 'Raine' that is not good. Bouffant hair, overblown gilt furniture, poodles, chain smoking, red nails.

'Rain' otoh is all boho earthiness.

Arlo and Finn are both extremely popular so not unique. Chester is unusual but sorry to say I think it's for a reason, it's really awful.

I like Raine!

Marnie for a girl instead?

sue51 · 06/01/2019 20:43

All the girls names are lovely. I'm not keen on Chester and marley - marlee sound a bit silly.

Sofia - way too common imo along with Sophia and Sophie
Eleanor - nice but again very common
Eloise - nice but nothing special
Willow - v pretty but definitely of the moment
Elise - not a fan
Alannah - my favourite of your girls list - also like Ariana or Ariane

Chester - not a fan sounds like something like Colin to me - dull middle aged balding man.
Arlo - cute
Finn - my favourite of your boys list

Marley/Marlee - dogs name or the ghost from Christmas carol. Marnie (girls name) is quite cute.

Girls:
Sofia - overused
Eleanor - boring
Eloise - ok
Willow - no
Elise - yes but 's nameit's a car model
Alannah - yes but pronounced Al-anna not al-ah-na.

Boys:
Chester - i really wouldn't
Arlo - Essex
Finn - bad boy name. Lots of Finns and Finleys etc.

Unisex:
Marley (boy) - awful. Marley and me,
Marlee (girl) - dreadful
