Did a name just come to you when baby arrived?

Hi

Currently 36wks pregnant with a baby girl due to be delivered by planned section next week.

Dp and i have never really settled on a name throughout pregnancy. We do have two in mind but DP isn't keen on the one i prefer and although i do like the other name too i feel like i can't commit to it.

I've been stuck in hospital for three weeks and we have now both come to the conclusion that neither of us are bothered what we call her.

Will i be on here when baby is three weeks old with a nameless baby? Or will we see her and just know?

Fwiw its been a long road here. This is my 4th pregnancy with 2mmcs and a stillbirth in between so i think that's probably why we've never really commited to a name.

Ikwym about the Kardashians but if you love the name Kendal go for it. I like it too.
Ignore comments and opinions from the in-laws. They've had their time for choosing baby names, this is your time.

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2019 13:07

I had a name picked out for DC1 but when he turned out to be a boy instead of the girl I'd convinced myself I was having I hadn't got a clue what we'd call him. But within a few hours of having him I just knew what his name was.

As for Kendal, to me it's a place name & sounds odd on a person, especially a girl. I'd privately wonder if she'd been conceived there. Sorry. Kendall with the extra 'l' is marginally better, at least it's a recognised surname.

Rarfy · 02/01/2019 16:12

Yes i domt live a million miles from the place Kendal either. It's good hearing other peoples opinions and actually it doesn't put me off still so maybe i like it more than i thought.

Talking about names just coming to you i was laid in bed the other day not much else to do here and Penny came into my head. I quite like it but Penelope is becoming popular isn't it so i guess there will be a lot of Pennys around before long?

It's so tough nothing jumps out at me really. Even Kendal and Billie were just easy picks not a name i loved iyswim.

I'm going to go with the feeling that once i see her it will become clear.

My son was baby for 5 days 😂😂😂
We had names but just weren't sure, we waited till we knew we picked the right name.
He really suits Oliver so really glad I waited till I saw his little face 😊
Don't worry, this is your beautiful baby for you to name. You will see her and a name will fit!
Good luck with your c-s, and let us know what you call her 💗

With DC1 I changed his name about five times during pregnancy and wasn’t entirely set when he was born but realised he just fit the first name I’d ever chosen best.

DC2 I think I went a little crazy with the hormones and considered really odd stupid names such as Sunflower and Zeppelin Confused. When she was born she just looked like her name but we didn’t have a good middle name at all. It was actually my Dad that suggested her middle name on the strength of it being my NN as a child. Suits her really well.

DC3 I didn’t find out the sex and was convinced she was a boy! Didn’t have a girls name picked out whatsoever so she was baby for a few days Grin.

DC4 was the only one whose name was picked out and set from around 20 weeks and thankfully he suits it well.

mumshappycampers · 02/01/2019 17:01

I was dead set on one name, which suited a boy or a girl, all through my pregnancy, but an off the cuff remark by a friend about what the baby might look like (when she met my DH) made me think of someone I knew a long time ago, and I used the name of someone I hadn't seen or thought of in 20 years!!

KitKatCHA · 02/01/2019 17:05

DC3 didn't have a name for 3 days after she was born, she was nearly registered as, 'the baby' Grin

Rarfy · 02/01/2019 18:33

Haha loving all these stories! Seems it is more common then i thought and i needn't worry. I really do have too much time on my hands.

Thank you for the luck with the section. Trying to put it to the back of my mind. They have told me the 'worst case scenario' and obviously that now feels like 'this will definitely happen'. I have to get the midwives to reassure me daily that is worst case and it will probably go smoothly and i will be in and out in an hour. Flipping placenta previa!!!

I had three names in mind that I liked for a boy but as soon as I saw him he 'looked' like a Malachi. We tried calling him the other two names a few times before we registered him but they didn't feel right so Malachi it was. He is 4 now and still really suits it.

Rarfy · 03/01/2019 14:26

Oh wow @Didyeeaye i love that name. Such a good choice!

DD 1 was meant to be Elizabeth. Love the name and dh did too. However as she arrived we both looked at her and said in unison " Thats not Elizabeth" She was named Phoebe. Suits it and I can not imagine here being an Elizabeth.

We learned to not settle on a name for the other 3 and waited until we met them with a short list.

Rarfy · 03/01/2019 17:18

Phoebe was on our shortlist. Lovely name! Well in that case it really isn't worth us worrying about it too much.

Bleeding started again so might not even have as long as i thought to decide lol!

We'd picked a name for DS (didn't know sex but had a name for each) but he didn't look like it for ages. He didn't look like an anything.

We are now expecting DD and we cannot agree on a name! I'm having a c section in 3 weeks, and have no idea what she will be called.

wombatsears · 04/01/2019 12:19

We had 2 favourites and when DD arrived I could only imagine her as one of them - the other just didn’t seem to suit her at all. She’s now 3 months and can’t imagine her as anything else

Rarfy · 04/01/2019 14:35

This is all very reassuring thank you and im still hanging on in there so Wednesday is looking more and more likely.

I think i will just keep the two in mind i already have and maybe when we see her one of them will just fit.

We had a name picked out and then when I saw him I immediately thought of Ezra. Thought about it for a few days and decided he suited the original name better. I’m glad, Ezra became quite popular. Hope all goes well!

Rarfy · 04/01/2019 17:55

Right so take a few days if needed as well? All excellent advice! I need to stop mentioning the names to people really. Sil has just been and said oh i like Kendal so now i'm back to thinking i really do too haha!

I'm clearly easily swayed.

@DwangelaForever
I have a boy who would have been Charlotte if he had been a girl and a girl who would have been Lewis if she had been a boy
( I didn't know the sex before both were born)

FrumpyKnickers · 05/01/2019 10:41

I had Rebecca picked out for d's but the minute she was born the name Hazel came to me although on d's I had no clue what to call him he remained nameless for a few hours we settled on Mark.

Rarfy · 05/01/2019 11:13

Getting excited to see what happens on the day now i know im not alone n needn't worry. It's funny that you can't imagine what they will look like.

Sorry but Kendal sounds like Ken doll. It’s also trashy with the Kardashians and the kind of name chavs would go for. Please don’t!

HalfBloodPrincess · 05/01/2019 15:08

I agree re Kendall, but I really like Kendra! It was the name of a character in my favourite Paula Danziger book when I was younger, so might just be the nostalgia talking!

Rarfy · 05/01/2019 15:26

I must admit i do sometimes here 'ken doll' when i say it.

I'm not really bothered about the Kardashian link i know people will say that as they are so famous but i haven't picked Kendall after Kendall Jenner. I just think it is a nice strong but not too common name.

I really don"t want a popular name but don'f want one that is too out there either.

bellie710 · 05/01/2019 22:00

DD 1 I picked both loved the name, DD 2 DH picked and loved the name, DD3 wasn't named for 3 weeks, we couldn't decide at all!

Rarfy · 06/01/2019 08:41

It must get harder the more children you have. I think with this being my 4th pregnancy thats made it tougher.

Ive already had 3 girls names lined up before that i dont want to use now because of what happened to the pregnancies.
