Only suitable with some Spanish heritage I'm assuming? Just really like it and have none!!

I actually really like it, I think it's nice!

NooMe · 30/12/2018 23:08

I kind of like it OP. It's different. I know the name but I've never known anyone called Diego.

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2018 23:10

I would assume Spanish heritage, tbh.

ZebraKid71 · 30/12/2018 23:11

It reminds me of the tiger from ice age!

I like the sound of it but having grown up in the states I would definitely assume Mexican heritage.

leccybill · 30/12/2018 23:15

Some people will think of Diego Maradona.
I like it as a name though. I like Enzo too.

Notreallyhere23 · 30/12/2018 23:15

I like it, but immediately sang the Go Diego Go theme tune in my head, not sure if that’s still on but was a large part of my child’s younger tv viewing!

I called both my children names from the same country background despite having no connection (it was quite accidental that they were both from there) and haven’t had too many comments to be honest.

sassolino · 30/12/2018 23:18

I know an Italian named Diego.

Coldtoes28 · 31/12/2018 01:11

Love it!

Starlight456 · 31/12/2018 01:12

I know an Italian boy named Diego but yes also Dora’s cousin

ABitOTT · 31/12/2018 01:24

Love it! No need for Spanish heritage as nowadays practically any name is possible.

MikeUniformMike · 31/12/2018 11:54

The cornish name Jago might be an alternative, or Hugo.

thisisjustdaft · 31/12/2018 11:58

All it makes me think of is the character in Ice Age.

abcriskringle · 31/12/2018 12:11

Love it!

BedraggledBlitz · 31/12/2018 12:14

I'm not keen. Don't xenophobes call Spanish people Diego in a derogatory manner?

flossietoot · 31/12/2018 12:15

Don’t like it- unless you are Spanish.

leccybill · 01/01/2019 21:04

I heard a toddler Santiago being called in the park today. Nickname Santi. Thought it sounded lovely!

fanofleetwoodmac · 01/01/2019 21:07

With a cousin called Dora (the explorer)

panoramallama · 01/01/2019 22:58

Don't xenopohobes call Spanish people Diego in a derogatory manner?

No, they don't. Where'd you get that idea from?

HeronLanyon · 01/01/2019 23:03

maradona ! Think it is a beautiful name but In possibly rather boring, blinkered way I just don’t think it makes sense if no Spanish/Latino heritage. It actually sounds very different to my ear with no cultural link and sounds naff suddenlyn. Sorry op - context is all I think. Congrats by the way !

Joinourclub · 01/01/2019 23:05

Go Diego go!

planespotting · 02/01/2019 08:31

Lovely name
I am Spanish Smile

planespotting · 02/01/2019 08:33

Not only Maradona
Velazquez and Ribera were Diegos too Smile

I have met people here with DCs with Spanish names and I have asked oh, are you Spanish and many times they say no, but we liked the name, love Barcelona or whatever and they make me Smile. I think it is nice Smile

planespotting · 02/01/2019 08:35

@MikeUniformMike Yago in Galician too Smile. Galicia is a Celtic region, many similarities with Cornwall, Wales, Scotland. I am from there Smile

Chocolateismynemesis · 02/01/2019 08:43

I know quite a few Diegos but they all have Latino/Hispanic heritage. I lived in TX for a few years - it’s a common name there, but I’ve never met a white/black/Asian Diego - only Latino or Hispanic.
