Can I use a name a friend had just used?

Our baby boy is due any day and we've gone through lists and lists of names and both really stuck on Hugo. We both really love it and it goes with middle & last name perfectly.

The only problem is that a girl I work with has called her little boy Hugo too just a few weeks ago.

We don't see her out of work and are just work & Facebook friends but I can't help feel she might think we are coping.

What do you think?

Honestly, you probably won't even know her in a few years. Think ahead 10 years. " We were going to call you Hugo but someone, can't remember who, called their child it. That's why you are called Reginald"

Just use the name. Don't feel guilty either. For what it's worth, your colleague may even be flattered - I would be.

Use it but I'd probably just message her to say by the way this looks like the only name we both agree on at the moment so we might end up with a Hugo too!

Your title is misleading, so — not only is she not a friend, she’s not even a close work colleague, in which case call your baby whatever you like. Once either of you switch jobs, you’ll never see one another again.

yes use it.

Of course you can use it. Don't expect her to be happy about it though.

But Hugo is pretty popular so it's not like she won't already know of any others.
