Multi-cultural name

I’m due a girl in feb, she will be half English, half Jamaican, her Jamaican family are very proud of their African heritage and most aunts and uncles have African names. I’d like a name that reflects her different cultures, already have a daughter and her name is short so I’d like another shortish name. I’m really drawing a blank, dad isn’t any help, we can’t come up with anything we like full stop so have a list of zero. Anyone have any ideas?

How about something like Iman or Aisha? African names originally, but not uncommon in Britain and easy to pronounce?

Are you looking for Jamaican or African??? Your post doesn't make sense

Guacatrole · 27/12/2018 22:54

Africans went to Jamaica. So not sure why it doesn’t make sense? 🤨

birdgal4848 · 27/12/2018 22:55

Jamaica is in the Carribean and therefore totally different to Africa! The names will be very different too. Unless that side of the family also has African heritage I think you may be confused.

FissionChips · 27/12/2018 22:56

Which part of Africa are they originally from? So we can give ideas of appropriate names.

peachypetite · 27/12/2018 22:58

Africa is huge. Don't think it's just me who found the wording of the OP a bit confusing.

Guacatrole · 27/12/2018 23:01

Of course it’s huge but most people don’t which bit their families were stolen from.

FissionChips · 27/12/2018 23:04

Or give examples of family names so we have some idea of the type of name you’d like.

Onemorewonthurt · 27/12/2018 23:09

Africans went to Jamaica. So not sure why it doesn’t make sense? 🤨

Yes, in the 1500s, welcome to the 21st century.

Africa and Jamaica are near 6000 miles apart and culturally very different.

We are not all the same Shock

wakemewhenitsallover · 27/12/2018 23:13

How about Nia?

It's a Swalihi name and also the Welsh form of Niamh, from ancient Celtic myths.

What's your heritage Brainfogmcfogface? Do you have any Welsh/Irish/Scottish ancestors for example?

Beautyandthe · 27/12/2018 23:14

This is a broad question.
I live in an ethnically diverse area of London and there are some beautiful African inspired names, often they have biblical significance, but depends where the family have their roots.

My mixed race (Jamaican) friend is called Jada, I think that's beautiful.

Ionie
Nafisa
Raeni
Noa

wakemewhenitsallover · 27/12/2018 23:15

We are not all the same

Of course not. I took the OP to mean her Jamaican relatives had a family tradition of using African names.

Apologies if I misunderstood.

wakemewhenitsallover · 27/12/2018 23:22

Brainfogmcfogface if your DP isn't being much help, can you speak to one of the aunts or uncles in case they're more help on where their names came from?

As others have said Africa is massive. Are you sure they aren't going for names from a particular country / region. Or of a particular religion? Would be a shame to get it wrong!
