DS1 due in a few months and so far the names that DH and I like seem to fit into 3 categories:

  1. Old English names that have yet to make a full comeback e.g.
  • Albert
  • Frank
  • Edmund

I love Alfred, Frederick and Henry but already have close friends' babies with these names

  1. Irish names that are easily pronouncable in England (DS will be half Irish but growing up in England) e.g.
  • Ardan
  • Cillian
  • Cullen
  1. Slightly posh English names 🙈 e.g.
  • Laurence
  • Sebastian
  • Miles
  • Jasper

Any other suggestions for names that fit into these categories?

Desmond is an old Irish name. It can be shortened to Dessie which is also lovely.

We had some of the names in your category 3 on our list, along with Hugo, Edward, Benedict, and Josiah.

These are brilliant suggestions - thank you.

@ThroughThickAndThin01 - Rufus is my absolute favourite name! Unfortunately DH has already ruled it out as he thinks he'd get called Rufus the Dufus, even though no one has used the word dufus for about 20 years Hmm

Sorry to butt in, but @Smizzlediz you’ve put my 2 sons names in your list (Stanley and Leonard) and my dad is Ray 😂

Have you got any girl suggestions for me seeing as we have a similar taste?

Smizzlediz · 26/12/2018 10:09

Haha that’s interesting! My absolute favourite girls name is Annie but that could be a bit rhymey with Stanley. I also like

Edie/Edith (think I’d go for this with your boys!)
Alice
June
Nina
Nora
Violet

Any good? Seems I like quite short girls names, though I haven’t thought as hard about them as I would’ve just gone for Annie had my little one been a girl! Do you have any on your list already?

LokiDokiArtichoki · 26/12/2018 10:32

Funnily enough, Annabel is on the list! As well as Violet! Alice is my nan and Norah is DPs great gran 😂

I have an Amelia as well but her and Stanley are mid teens and Lenny is a toddler, so don’t have the worry of shouting similar names in the park etc.

Smizzlediz · 26/12/2018 11:18

Haha sounds like your whole family has good taste, by my standards anyway! 🤣

I’d go for Annie/Annabel if you’re not worried about rhyming. I have a little relative called Stanley who occasionally gets Stanny but I’m sure that will have been long dropped for a teenager!

LokiDokiArtichoki · 26/12/2018 11:47

My Stanley plays rugby so gets called by his surname mostly by his mates. Or Standley when his sister is trying to wind him up 🤣
