Help! Regret?? Sofia/Lilia

Help! Regret!?
Hi.
My oldest dd is Sofia. I never had an issue picking her name. I like that it’s well known world wide, never mispronounced. Its popularity doesn’t bother me. I like that it’s a timeless classic even though it’s quite “in”
Now. I would still consider it a classic, and used royally.

Now for dd2 I’m having such an issue. I feel like I hate every name. My dh and I have finally settled on the name Lilia. My reasons is that I like names that are feminine and end in “A”, it sounds quite melodic and elegant? But the things that put me off is that, I feel like it’s not well known...perhaps a bit too continental and not English. Potential to be mispronounced and not a timeless classic like sofia? I’m worried Lilia is too weird, and Im setting up my dd2 with a weird name. My dh has refused Lillian saying it’s a bit too old lady, and Liliana is too long and frilly. Lilia can always be shorted to lily, but I feel like lily is too common.

My naming style is that I like names like Amelia, Cecelia, Olivia etc. But I do not want to use these names.

Is Lilia a weird name??

Should I try and find another “sofia” name, or is Lilia like “sofia” and am I overly worrying?

Hmm. I'm old enough to remember a brand of sanitary towels called Lilia, so it's a no from me. Sorry.

Kintan · 22/12/2018 14:50

Well as you’ve spelled Sofia in the continental way, I wouldn’t worry about Lilia not being classically ‘english’. I think both names are lovely and go very well together :)

NannyR · 22/12/2018 14:59

I would have thought Lilia was pretty straightforward to pronounce - like Lillian but without the 'n'. It's a lovely name and goes well with Sofia spelt that way (as the pp said, spelling it with an f is more continental)

champagneduvin · 22/12/2018 15:06

TBH it does matter to me a lot that it’s well known in English, as I live in England! Sophia/sofia is considered a well known English name. But not sure if Lilia is on that level...

I think Lilia is nice. It's melodic. I don't think it's weird at all and I certainly don't have the association of the previous poster!
If you didn't want to use it, what about Lia or Leia, Lara, Lyra or another entirely - Eliza, Louisa, Lena, Larissa, Julia, Jessica, Illona, Gisela, - but I'm sure you've considered these!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 22/12/2018 15:07

Lilia is fab. I can't see any problems with pronouncing it
Other A ending names for you to think of. That will compliment Sofia.
Laila. Anna. Eliza. Freya. Olivia. Rosa.
Clara. Amelia. Eva.

CordeliaJay · 22/12/2018 15:24

Cordelia!

MumUnderTheMoon · 22/12/2018 15:29

It is a pretty name but im not keen on siblings having names which sound similar or rhyme or even start with the same first letter as it's a bit like they're part of a set as opposed to individuals.

twoundertwo54321 · 22/12/2018 15:40

It's beautiful and same as Sofia in my opinion. Definitely go with it.

Cherry321 · 22/12/2018 15:42

Sorry I'm with Drama on this one, Lilia makes me think of SAN pro.

Floralnomad · 22/12/2018 15:48

How about Claudia or Antonella

Elllicam · 22/12/2018 15:49

I like Lilia, or Lydia?

marmiteloversunite · 22/12/2018 16:01

Sabella?

SleepWarrior · 22/12/2018 16:18

Would Lilah (lye-la) be a good alternative?

Jessbow · 22/12/2018 21:02

Sofia and Eliza go nicely together

Doublevodka · 22/12/2018 21:07

I love the name Lilia. It was going to be my 2nd child's name but I had a boy. Smile

fudgesmummy · 22/12/2018 21:30

Have you considered Ophelia?

Snog · 22/12/2018 21:48

Lydia is lovely and is more english than Lilia

Zazia · 22/12/2018 21:54

I think both pronunciation and spelling are quite straight forward. It may not be exactly like Sofia but is that a baf thing? It's only up to you to know if you like it enough or not though.

SnowyPaws5 · 22/12/2018 23:43

I don't like Lilia personally. A bit of a mouthful.

thatshabbychick · 23/12/2018 07:34

@champagneduvin I used to follow an extremely popular American vlogger on YouTube (gabenjesss) and her first born is Lilia. I've always liked the name and think it goes well with Sofia. X

thatshabbychick · 23/12/2018 07:36

@champagneduvin Sorry just realised she change her YouTube name, it's now 'jesssfam'. Just incase you were interested in watching one of her vids to hear the name said out loud a lot and get a better feel for it x

MikeUniformMike · 23/12/2018 14:46

It's fine. Maybe a bit too similar to the Lila, Lily, Livia etc names for me, but it's pretty and goes well as a sibling name.

RickOShay · 23/12/2018 14:49

Love Sofia.
What about
Isla

Clara

Ines

Rose or Rosa

Tatiana

Anna

Nina

I prefer these to Lilia.

Enko · 23/12/2018 19:36

Lilia is beautiful but if you don't feel it has the classic feel how about Cecelia with Lilia as the nn?
