Teddy or Theo?

DH and I can't agree. To go with a single syllable colour surname.

Theo Black sounds better than Teddy Black, but Teddy White sounds really good...

StarCutterCookie · 18/12/2018 19:42

Most people would say Theo, Teddy would be a bit forced imo

Fairylea · 18/12/2018 19:42

Theo

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/12/2018 19:43

Either although teddy is a bit babyish.

SayNoToCarrots · 18/12/2018 19:43

Is he born yet?

IncomingCannonFire · 18/12/2018 19:43

I'd go for the middle 'odor'.
Has a nice ring to it. Grin
Not helpful.
Teddy when young the Ted or Theo when older. Just mix it up.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/12/2018 19:44

I love Theo.
Theo Green
Theo White
Theo Black
Theo Duck-Egg Blue

All work fine.

I think once he's here just see what naturally fits your mouth and his face

PeaQiwiComHequo · 18/12/2018 19:45

Theodora is shortened to Dora so I think I would try out Dorry as a nick name.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 18/12/2018 19:46

I've met approx. 50 + Theodores and not one of them has ever been a Teddy, they are always Theo.

PeaQiwiComHequo · 18/12/2018 19:47

(you know he will mainly be called "sausage" "pudding" "niblet" etc and his name will be relatively rarely used.

Disfordarkchocolate · 18/12/2018 19:48

Theo, Teddy is for Edward.

pingoose · 18/12/2018 19:49

SayNoToCarrots no, not born yet!

Is Teddy an American shortening then? I was thinking along the lines of Roosevelt, and there's a Teddy in Little Women.

@disfordarkchocolate

It really isn’t Hmm [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_bear teddy]

AlaskanSnow · 18/12/2018 19:57

Ted in How I Met Your Mother is a Theodore

GobblersKnob · 18/12/2018 19:59

Obvs Teddy if your surname is Brown ;)

Personally I generally prefer Theo. But you can shorten it to anything, even if people say it isn't traditional, or even that it has never been done before.....

PeaQiwiComHequo ds was 'niblet' until her was about three, I've never heard it from anyone else before!

oneofthose · 18/12/2018 20:07

I shorted it to Ted but any of them work well and I figured he'd choose his own when older

ShadyLady53 · 18/12/2018 20:08

Theo. Really not keen on Teddy as a nickname for such a beautiful longer name.

Sophronia · 18/12/2018 20:12

I prefer Ted

TheRedFox · 18/12/2018 20:15

Theo, Ted or Teddy?

The nickname you end up using might depend on the character of your son as you get to know him.

AppleKatie · 18/12/2018 20:19

Both equally acceptable.
I prefer Teddy/Ted.

GinIsIn · 18/12/2018 20:19

I think just see what they look like.

starzig · 18/12/2018 20:52

Why would you?

BackforGood · 18/12/2018 21:48

Theo

Cbeebiesrehab · 18/12/2018 21:49

All the Theodores I know are Teddy but then I don’t know any over 3. I don’t really like Theo so I would use Ted.

Raggedyaine · 18/12/2018 21:50

I always though Odie (Garfields dog) came from Theodore.

I know a lovely grown up Teddy who goes by Ted.
