Yay or nay. Can't be Ava.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Chloejean · 18/12/2018 01:30

Love it!!! Thomas Rhett’s daughters name is Ada James, defiantly one for my book! 😉

ReggieKrayDoYouKnowMyName · 18/12/2018 01:31

We considered this. Ended up going with Esther, which I think has a similar feel, so just putting it out there.

ShovingLeopard · 18/12/2018 01:38

Don't like it, I'm old enough to remember lots of old ladies with leg bandages called Ada. I'm like a pp, I prefer Aida. Much more classy.

Thespace · 18/12/2018 01:46

Too old fashioned and not in a good way.

giftsonthebrain · 18/12/2018 02:11

i have a friend AIDA, people mispronounced that so she switched to IDA. i'm not even sure how i would pronounce ADA...add-ah

stellarfox · 18/12/2018 09:43

Yay!

tammytoby · 18/12/2018 12:25

I was going to ask about the pronunciation too! Would you say Ah-da or Ay-da? Confused

FestiveNut · 18/12/2018 12:54

Ayda, I would have thought. Not ahda. Also, youtube 'fascinating Ada' Xmas Grin

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 18/12/2018 13:04

I'd pronounce it Ay-da. I'm of the generation where it's not granny chic yet. Reminds me of Les Dawson...

cece · 18/12/2018 13:04

Definitely no

mortifiedmama · 18/12/2018 13:07

It's be pronounced Ayda, we're up North and I've only ever heard it pronounced like that. I work with older people so hear it with reasonable frequency!

It's be after Ada Lovelace!

OP posts:
FestiveNut · 18/12/2018 13:12

I thought along the Ada Lovelace lines but she died from cancer at 36 so I was too superstitious to name my daughter after her. She also ended up in masses of debt. It might not bother more pragmatic people though.

recently · 18/12/2018 13:14

Love it! Sadly couldn't use it due to rhyme surname!

ThanksItHasPockets · 18/12/2018 13:15

It’s Fascinating Aïda.

‘Fucking Ada’ is a dialect expression in parts of Yorkshire, immortalised in the History Boys. It wouldn’t put me off!

mrssunshinexxx · 18/12/2018 13:17

Like it but makes me think of Ayda Shelby Grin

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 18/12/2018 13:19

Or, 'bleedin' Ada!'

festivedogbone · 18/12/2018 20:08

It's ok but it makes me think of the cross stitch fabric.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/12/2018 20:12

No! It's dreadful. In the same boat as Ethel, Edith, Ivy, Enid, Ida type thing.

mortifiedmama · 18/12/2018 21:11

@GreatDuckCookery we clearly have very very different tastes in names! All those are on my list!

What names do you like?

OP posts:
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 18/12/2018 21:21

Lovely 😊

TimeWoundsAllHeals · 18/12/2018 22:15

It’s very popular, you might see that as good or bad. Always makes me think of Lovelace.

mortifiedmama · 18/12/2018 22:27

TimeWoundsAllHeals is it? I've not meant one under 80 yet!
