Me and DP love the name Noel for our baby if it's a boy.
Thoughts?

Not to my taste but it's not awful. I immediately think of Noel Edmunds and then Noel Fielding ....

It's just a bit dated I think

bionicnemonic · 15/12/2018 15:06

I knew a Noel. Born in September...conceived under the tree!

GrannyHaddock · 15/12/2018 15:07

It's not dreadful but I find it a bit weedy, sorry.

Bacardi101 · 15/12/2018 15:13

Not to my taste but if you like it that’s all that matters! Smile

ZebraKid71 · 15/12/2018 15:24

I can't get past the Edmunds association.

Shadow1234 · 15/12/2018 17:41

Not to my taste, but if you both love it, then definitely go for it!

Lynne45 · 15/12/2018 18:22

It literally means Christmas so I wouldn’t unless it was a Christmas baby!

SoyDora · 15/12/2018 18:26

Not a fan.

Procne · 15/12/2018 18:51

Dated, rather like Malcolm or Trevor.

Cookit · 15/12/2018 20:40

Yeah Edmunds ... but Gallagher is OK, no?

I wouldn’t personally use but I don’t hate it at all, it’s fine.

DramaAlpaca · 15/12/2018 20:41

I don't like it at all.

Sophronia · 15/12/2018 20:41

I quite like it. Noelle is nice for a girl too.

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2018 20:42

Tbh, the only Noel/Noelles I know IRL are all born in the last 2 weeks of December.

3out · 15/12/2018 20:46

I think it would be rather like naming a child born in November, Summer.
Nice names, but your child will have a lifetime of first introductions being ‘Ah, a Christmas birthday!’

kenandbarbie · 15/12/2018 20:49

It's a bit middle aged

Greggers2017 · 15/12/2018 22:20

@Cookit you got it in one.
Wouldn't use it for a Christmas baby that's just tacky.
I'm not too bothered about name meanings. My ex partners name meant saint and he was an abusive wanker so I'm not choosing based on meaning.

I think it's classic, lovely and unusual. I'd think Noel Coward before anyone else.

angeltop · 15/12/2018 22:47

El no.

siobhan0710 · 15/12/2018 22:55

My husband wanted Noel for a boy when I was pregnant with my first. But all I could hear was 'Edmonds'. His argument was all he could hear was 'Gallagher', which is his opinion was really cool. We had a girl in the end though..

AppleKatie · 15/12/2018 23:02

Funny isn’t it that when you stop and think there are several famous Noel’s and they have wildly different character types and asssociations...

And yet it all comes back to Edmonds, Mr Blobby and Christmas.

So it’s a no from me.

Cookit · 16/12/2018 07:31

Noel Gallagher was born in May!

The name is growing on me.

SoyDora · 16/12/2018 07:38

Nothing to do with the associations or meaning, I just don’t like the name. It’s a bit ‘wet’.

Greggers2017 · 16/12/2018 08:55

@Cookit people who know us will know exactly what Noel!

OP posts:
Astronica · 16/12/2018 12:07

Sorry, I think it's pretty awful.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 16/12/2018 15:14

I thought Noel & Noelle were pronounced differently so don’t associated Noel with Christmas
