Currently expecting first baby with my partner. I have two older children and he has 1.
We love the name
Lyla Iris
Lots of people have liked it but great grandma hates it

I don’t think they’re difficult to say at all.

Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 07:04

Definitely our last we have three older ones between us and this our first together took two years to conceive. I'm too old now abd struggling with the pregnancy

It's a perfectly fine name, and lovely to see something other than the perennial Rose or Grace in the middle!

Well Great Grandma doesn't get an opinion I'm afraid, and this is the reason you keep your chosen name to yourself until you announce it when the baby is born. Don't have any more discussions about it. Don't fret, she will get used to it.

Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 07:22

@Astronica she wasn't supposed to know. She overheard a phone conversation to my sister.
She's very opinionated, strong Irish woman. All the same in my family. She still insists on calling my amelie, Amelia 🙄

Iris is much nicer. Don’t like Lyla, way too much like lilo. Prefer Lyra.

nocluenoidea · 29/11/2018 10:30

Much prefer the spelling Lila (same pronounced as Lyla), but it's a lovely name!

Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 16:20

Thank you. We'd stick to the spelling Lyla as it's a song by our favourite band that was playing in a pub on our first date. Kind of meaningful. Iris was my sisters middle name who is sadly not with us anymore.

daisypond · 29/11/2018 16:28

I think they're a bit hard to say together, but it's fine. I much prefer Iris to Lyla, though.

Nesssie · 29/11/2018 16:31

Love Lyla, its what I want to call my child. And hardly any one uses first and middle names so it won't be a tongue twister.

Cosmoa · 29/11/2018 16:47

No, I'm from the North too and I still don't have any issues saying it!

Really don't get how it's tongue twister.

BishBoshBashBop · 29/11/2018 16:51

Lyla rose iris sounds nice but rose is meh! Everybody's middle name is rose or may or grace at the moment.

I know of quite a fewwith Iris in there too tbf.

Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 16:59

Around here everybody uses rose, grace or may as a middle name. Iris is a personal name so I don't mind if it's popular.
I'm as northern as they come with an Irish Mum. My accent is awful 😂

Kind of icky for your kid though.

Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 17:24

Obviously we wouldn't tell her the reason. Me and DP have overcome a lot of obstacles and illnesses to still be together so we wanted something that was sentimental.

OP posts:
Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 17:27

First name is definitely Lyla we're just considering if we like a different middle name

TatianaLarina · 29/11/2018 17:42

It will come out when you’re pissed. Wine

Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 17:48

Oh god don't. I was mortified with my mum when she once did that. Her Version was how I was concieved 😷

OP posts:
Cosmoa · 29/11/2018 19:25

How is it icky? That wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I think it's romantic! I'm named after a singer that my parents liked... Wouldn't make a difference to me if they first heard of her on their first date...

Greggers2017 · 29/11/2018 19:55

@Cosmoa me and my siblings are all named after something significant to our parents. There's 7 of us. I'm named after the lady who introduced them.

Lyla is a fine name. In real life it's actually very rare for a child to be called by their first and middle names, so one that's a bit tongue-twister-y (such as Lyla Iris) won't make that much of an issue.

Rosie2000 · 29/11/2018 21:35

Not hard to say at all and I say a lot of names everyday! They are just fine, not sure what the issue is really

Lottie35 · 29/11/2018 22:54

Love these names so tasteful. However should Lyla be Lila or Lilah?

Cosmoa · 29/11/2018 22:54

@Greggers2017 that's so sweet! 😍

papayya · 29/11/2018 22:58

I think it's nice, and she will probably get called Lyla in everyday situations and not the full Lyla Iris

Greggers2017 · 30/11/2018 03:25

www.babycenter.com/baby-names-lyla-7755.htm

It's actually a more common spelling than Lila which is coming up number 😊200 and something.

Also If you google the song it's spelt Lyla too.
