What would you think of Nora (for a girl, obvs)?

Love it!
Was on my list if my son had been a girl x (although I had it spelled norah) x

MamaDane · 28/11/2018 14:39

Pretty!

peachypetite · 28/11/2018 14:40

I know quite a few newborns called Nora, must be getting more popular

Pemba · 28/11/2018 16:26

It's fine if you ignore that it used to be a bit of a joke 'old people' name. (Norah Batty of the wrinkly stockings in 'Last of the Summer Wine'? But I suppose anyone under 40 wouldn't get that reference). Nowadays you would think more of the lovely Norah Jones.

However IMO it is still not as nice as Dora, Flora, Laura or Maura.

LipstickTraces · 28/11/2018 16:29

Nora Batty. Just because these old lady names are coming back into fashion doesn’t make them nice!

Wordie · 28/11/2018 17:14

I love Nora and it would of definitely been on my list if I wasn’t having a boy!! X

ernjas · 28/11/2018 17:33

Not my preference but it's an alright name.

ZebraKid71 · 28/11/2018 17:42

It's OK. I've heard it quite a lot in the past year, I didn't know any little noras before then!

Flamingosnbears · 28/11/2018 17:42

Perfectly fine name in my opinion

furrysheep · 28/11/2018 18:06

Love the name but I'd wonder where the 'h' was.

JohnGalt · 28/11/2018 18:11

Love it and it travels well - there are Nora(h)s in lots of both Southern and Northern European countries. I always think it sounds very calm and dignified.

JohnGalt · 28/11/2018 18:13

Furrysheep it's a legitimate spelling - both are. I think it's one of those that was originally an abbreviation so if we're going to pick holes either variation is suspect!

notpushyinterested · 28/11/2018 18:16

Bloody awful

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 28/11/2018 18:20

Awful, frumpy and plain.

Janek · 28/11/2018 18:23

I've got a Nora. it's a brilliant name, it really suits her! Named after my nana. We often talk of the day she will be nana nora herself!

Balloondog · 28/11/2018 20:52

Love it! It was first choice for the imaginary daughter I never had - chosen because it means light in Arabic Smile

ShinyTooth · 28/11/2018 20:54

I love it, but better with a 'h' imo

SallyWD · 28/11/2018 21:14

Lovely name. Good for a littke girl and for a grown woman

Zolaaaaa · 28/11/2018 21:15

I absolutely love Nora, especially the spelling Norah

PorpentinaScamander · 28/11/2018 21:15

I love it!

DramaAlpaca · 28/11/2018 21:56

Sorry, but I think it's horrible however you spell it. To me it's ugly & frumpy. I don't get the love for it on here at all.

Picknickers · 28/11/2018 23:00

I really like it. Prefer it with an h on the end but it's a lovely name.

Highlowpo · 28/11/2018 23:04

Love it! Would definitely be on our list but for the fact that it's my husband's auntie's name.

doomclaw · 29/11/2018 09:55

Love it! I had a beloved great aunt Nora when I was a child. Her mum (my great nan) was also Nora although technically they were both Leonora. If I had a DD she would have had Leonora as a middle name.

FellSwoop · 29/11/2018 10:14

Lovely, classic name which is having a bit of a moment recently. I think it sounds best with a single syllable middle name.
