Boys Name Suggestions

mummyofboys30 · 25/11/2018 18:47

So I thought I'd start a seperate thread to look for boys name suggestions.
Brother is Noah Harry.

I prefer names that cannot be shortened.

I loved Jacob when I was pregnant with Noah but was put off by the meaning.

I like Rupert but put off by negative comments.

Not aiming for anything overly biblical. (Dont like names like Elijah, Eli, Isaac).

Recently fallen in love with Joseph, but worried about it being shortened to Joey or Joe.

The girls name I have is Matilda Rose, from well before I started having children and that's set 100%.

PLEASE HELP. Im going boys name crazy!

Joseph is a lovely name, but will definitely be shortened to Joe.

What about James
Mark
Paul

Starting to think more about Jacob the name I liked when I was pregnant with Noah and Jospeh (and just hope I can get people to use full name if I use full name from birth).
What do you all think?
Struggling so much this time around.

My nephews are Noah and Jude Smile

I love Joseph but I think it will be difficult to control whether his name is shortened once he goes to school. I would suggest picking a name that can’t be shortened or a pick a name you like the shortening of.

I'm now starting to lean towards Jacob which I really liked when pregnant with my son Noah. Do you think they sound overly biblical or do they go well together?

I dont mind Joey but dislike Joe. Would much prefer to stick with full name of Joseph.

I know a Joseph, age 6 who has never been shortened so far....
I like Joseph - Noah and Jacob does seem overtly biblical, though I like Jacob too.

My ds has one of the biblical names you are not keen on! My other choices were Amos and Ezra.

BackforGood · 25/11/2018 21:34

yes, but 6 is very, very young...... he will only recently have been at school and unlikely to have spent much time yet at football, scouts, swimming, youth clubs, rugby, or anywhere apart from his Mother.

You won't stop people calling a Joseph, Joe Grin

mummyofboys30 · 25/11/2018 21:45

BackforGood That's my worry as had hoped that using Joseph for 5 years until school would be enough to keep it Joseph.
That said I think I may be narrowing it down to either Jacob or Joseph.
Jacob being a name I loved when I had my son and Joseph being a new favourite. Its just whether I can overcome the nickname thing.

Yes, Jake is a nice name too Wink

BlueChampagne · 26/11/2018 12:43

I know a Y7 Joseph who is adamantly still Joseph not Joe.

Didyeeaye · 26/11/2018 15:35

I much prefer Jacob to Joseph and think Noah and Jake/ Jacob sound lovely together.

Sophronia · 26/11/2018 23:38

Won’t Jacob be shortened to Jake?

Kissel · 26/11/2018 23:42

Don’t worrying about shortening too much OP. My mother hates my name being shortened and was very adamant it never would be however since I went to Uni I have almost exclusively been called by the shortening apart from by my family. You can’t stop people shortening it but DS will probably be called his full name by you and his family.

Fulltimemummy85 · 27/11/2018 11:19

I know Jacob, we call him Jacob, he doesn't suit Jake and dsnt get called it. I don't like Joseph, isn't that also a biblical name? Same as Noah

MrsStrowman · 27/11/2018 11:34

It will be about what he chooses, DH is a James, always James, but we know others that are Jim, Jimmy one even known as a Jamie, but DH preferred his full name so growing up people would use one of the above and he'd just say 'it's James' , if your DC wants to be called Jake or Joe that's what he'll tell people to call him
