Which name do you prefer?

If you prefer Ralph/Ralphie, which would you put on the BC?

Any other name suggestions would be great :)

I prefer Ruarigh.

RuthW · 25/11/2018 11:18

Ralph

Peachbubble · 25/11/2018 11:20

Rory

TealTurnip · 25/11/2018 11:20

Ralph is a slang word for vomit. I couldn’t say it every day without thinking about that.

Thewalker75 · 25/11/2018 11:22

Ralph on the bc as ralphie sounds like something you would only say in a baby voice.

Love both names, they were both on my list but I can't say my r's very well so that ruled them out!

Princesspeachy0 · 25/11/2018 11:50

@tealturnip I've never heard of that!

@thewalker75 I can imagine little children calling him wory or walph Hmm

Ralph

Winterwonderland12 · 25/11/2018 11:55

Rory is really difficult to pronounce for people who struggle with their Rs!

BrightonBB · 25/11/2018 11:55

Ralphie sounds cute for a toddler but not for an 18 year old or 28 year old man wanting to be taken seriously at work so you could have Ralph on birth certificate to give both options (but not really keen on either - sorry) Your choice though so choose what makes you happy.

HerculesTheBercules · 25/11/2018 11:57

Rory, or Ruraidh.

Definitely not the nickname for puking!

MyNewBearTotoro · 25/11/2018 11:57

I love them both! Hard to decide. Possibly a sight preference for Rory but both are lovely.

Definitely Ralph on the birth certificate though and not Ralphie - Ralphie sounds like a cutesy nickname but not a name in its own right.

haverhill · 25/11/2018 11:57

Ralphie is too cutesy for words.
Ralph is better, you could go posh and pronounce it Rafe.
I like Rory.

TealTurnip · 25/11/2018 11:57

Ralph is the noise you make when you vomit! Hence why it’s a slang word for throwing your guts up Grin

daisypond · 25/11/2018 12:00

I like Rory and Ralph (never heard of the vomit meaning). Ralphie is awful. I like Rafe too.

Limpetry · 25/11/2018 12:10

Rory. (Though I prefer Ruairí.)

NoUnicornsToSeeHere · 25/11/2018 12:12

Does no one read Judy Blume any more? (Where Ralph is the name of the penis in Forever...)

Limpetry · 25/11/2018 12:17

Yes, I did read Forever at the usual age, but I recognise that it's also a perfectly ordinary male name. I mean, Rees-Mogg hasn't yet put me off the perfectly nice name Jacob, and that's a much more disturbing image than Ralph-as-penis.

Kintan · 25/11/2018 12:24

Ralph pronounced Rafe is nice. I'd prefer Rory spelled as Ruairí.

Astronica · 25/11/2018 12:34

I love Rafe, to give a preferred variation.

Out of Rory and Ralph I prefer Rory, though Ralph is ok. Definitely put Ralph not Ralphie on the bc if you choose that.

DramaAlpaca · 25/11/2018 12:36

Rory by a million miles, I love it.

Ralph is awful & I have no words for Ralphie.

Alex3101 · 25/11/2018 12:46

We have a Ruairí so I'm a bit biased.
I'd definitely go with Ralph and possibly call him Rafe

Winterwonderland12 · 25/11/2018 13:05

People still get called Will or Willy despite Willy meaning penis!

Ralph is a well known name. I wouldn't even think of the book by J Blume

Syvilla · 25/11/2018 14:45

Ralphie on birth certificate would be horrendous.

You’re not naming a baby, you’re naming a person, who will need to grow up and have a career.

I would be embarrassed if I were an adult man to have to introduce myself as Ralphie. I’d change it by deedpoll as soon as legally possible.

RavenWings · 25/11/2018 15:04

Rory. Though I'm also Team Ruairí.
I think Ralph is horrible. If you're going to cryogenically freeze him at age 2, call him Ralphie. Otherwise it's ridiculous for an adult.

MyView2 · 25/11/2018 15:08

I have a friend who is Ralph, his actual name and the one on his birth certificate name is Randolph-just another idea to throw into the mix.
