Eva Rose Hyphen?

Hi

We have named our little girl Eva Rose, but I have been putting off getting her registered because I am unsure wether to use a hyphen ie Eva-Rose or just keep Eva as her first name and Rose as her middle name? We want everyone to call her Eva rose and not just Eva but I don’t want to make her life difficult for her when she is older and completing forms and having to explain the hyphen. Please can you let me know what you think?

Thanks :)

No hyphen.

LadyinLavende · 19/11/2018 15:38

I agree with ShowofHands: no hyphen, but Rose will not be her "middle" name, she will have a two-part given name.
People will understand this because of the way you say it (the rhythm is different) and the fact that you always use both parts of the name.
Whether you choose to add a middle name on top of that is up to you, but she could be Eva Rose, Catherine Rach for example.

Pretty name, congratulations on your baby!

no hyphen. She may well choose herself to just go by Eva when she's older, or indeed some other short.

Beautiful name.

NoSquirrels · 19/11/2018 15:42

No hyphen.

If you call her Eva Rose to people, they will call her that too.

I am just a little bit relieved that you didn't intend to make her third name Hyphen, which is what I thought when I opened the thread! Grin

Thank you for your help with this, I have been thinking about it for 3 weeks and have not been able to decide. For registration purposes the Rose would be a middle name but to friends, family and schools etc you would ask for her to be known as Eva Rose?

I call my daughter by her first and middle name often. Her first name is short and can't be shortened to anything so I like being able to call her by her first and middle. I don't mind that everyone else calls her by her first only though. I think if I'd named her Alexandria she'd end up just getting Alex eventually anyway so it's nice that my daughters 'short' name is actually her first full name.

My daughter had a friend called Megan-Rose and thats what her family called her. Unfortunately children at school just called her Megan, so you cannot always control the two names being said together outside of home.

Eva is a beautiful name.
Rose is a lovely middle name.

Eva-Rose doesn't work imo. It sort of dilutes each name down iyswim.

Cookit · 19/11/2018 19:20

No hyphen

Icklepup · 19/11/2018 19:56

No hyphen

HappyGoodHairBear · 19/11/2018 19:57

No hyphen.

hamzilla · 19/11/2018 20:02

A hyphen will never ever go down well on mumsnet.

However, if you want other people to call her Eva-Rose then you have to hyphen. Middle names generally don't appear on school registers etc, it will only ever be Eva.

firsttimemumma89 · 19/11/2018 20:04

I called my son first name and middle name, no hyphen, however I refer to him using first and middle name and he's now 2 years old. Everyone soon cottoned on and use both names too.

Wolfiefan · 19/11/2018 20:04

Evarose isn’t a name though.
She would be Eva.
Don’t hyphenate. It’s naff.

firsttimemumma89 · 19/11/2018 20:06

However I'd just like to add if in the future at school his friends only use his first name it wouldn't bother me. That's life. But likewise if there is another child with the same first name he could go by both to differentiate him.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/11/2018 20:07

No hyphen.
I don't think you calling her Eva Rose will last though, it'll get tiresome and no one else will bother after the first few months to be polite.

Cbeebiesrehab · 19/11/2018 20:16

I know a little girl with two first names along the line of Ellie Mae. No hyphen, but her mother insists she has two first names and goes nuts if you put in a hyphen or if you just call her Ellie!Confused However-everyone calls her Ellie Mae or her mother calls her E.M.
Sorry for the ramble. I guess what I’m saying is you don’t need the hyphen to use both names.

BigBumandMumTum · 19/11/2018 20:18

I have a hyphen name and hate it so I wouldn't

holasoydora · 19/11/2018 20:23

No hyphen would be how I would do it. Then just introduce her as Eva Rose.

Eva Rose is lovely btw.

Moonflower12 · 19/11/2018 20:56

I am known by my first name and middle name. (No hyphen) I have 2 friends with the same 2 names and no hyphens- they are always called their 2 names.

Sophronia · 19/11/2018 22:07

No hyphen.

DramaAlpaca · 19/11/2018 22:22

No hyphen.

I know an Eva Rose who isn't hyphenated. She sometimes gets called Eva and sometimes Eva Rose. The hyphen isn't necessary.

MaryShelley1818 · 20/11/2018 14:41

Definitely no hyphen!

SilverySurfer · 21/11/2018 16:26

No hyphen

Pemba · 21/11/2018 16:56

There is no need for a hyphen (which are naff). People being known by their first two names together has been a thing for ages, eg Mary Jane, Sally Ann. If some people call her just Eva does it really matter? after all, you must like Eva and she will always be Eva Rose to you I suppose and sometimes it's nice to have different versions of your name for different settings.
