Which is better? Henry’s nickname would be Hen? And Arthur’s perhaps Art/Artie?

7 weeks ago and I can’t name him :(. Every one I think of just gets destroyed on here.

Don’t worry wonbat, there’s always people who don’t like a name.

It’s really hard naming a child! Do any names have a special meaning to you?

Arthur and Henry are both lovely. Ignore the egative posters, they are probably trying to make themselves feel better about their children’s ‘interesting’ names by slating lovely traditional names. I saw someone on here once describing the names Emily, Charlotte and Oliver as ‘dreadful’ 😂

Congrats on your squishy newborn! Maybe a picture would help us tell you what he looks like?

Flamingosnbears · 20/11/2018 17:29

We've chosen Arthur to go with big Brother Edward if this little ones a boy 😊

flamingox · 20/11/2018 17:32

Don't worry what people think!! As long as you love his name that's all that matters x

mummypug · 20/11/2018 18:01

Aw congratulations wombat. I totally know how you feel - I really struggled naming my dc and got very affected (and upset) reading threads on here that completely tore apart my names. I still get a bit sad when I see people being mean about the names I eventually chose (and they are very normal top 20 ones!) I just have to remind myself you can't please everyone & we like the names - that's all that matters! X

Arthur

NotTired · 20/11/2018 18:12

We were between the two and went with Henry as he looked more like a Henry. We don't know any other Henrys but do know four Arthurs a similar age to our DS. We also liked Albert, Edward, Elias and Samuel.

Wombat222 · 20/11/2018 19:09

I have a Samuel already - love the name :). Does your Henry get called Hen/Henny and do you mind it? I don’t think I do but then people keep saying how awful it is :(. Wish I wasn’t so easily influenced by other opinions!

It’s so hard isn’t it - I definitely regret starting on this forum but so desperate to make a decision

Wombat, the only person who needs to like the name is you! No name will meet with universal approval. My son has a name so unusual there were three or fewer in his birth year in the UK, and has been referenced often on here as a name people wish they were brave enough to use. I’m sure many people don’t care for it, but it’s not their affair, after all. I wouldn’t call my child a top ten name, either, but again, not my circus, not my monkeys.

Henry

NotTired · 20/11/2018 20:34

My Henry is usually Henny. Or sometimes Henners by his Dad. I don't mind it at all but it wasn't something I'd thought of before I named him. I think once they start school most children get their own NNs anyway. We did intend to use Harry as a NN but it didn't feel right.

Wombat222 · 20/11/2018 21:27

I’m intrigued now BedHair! Thank you though - that’s kind

JemSynergy · 21/11/2018 13:00

I like both but would go with Arthur as less popular at the moment.

PippilottaLongstocking · 21/11/2018 13:02

Both are lovely! I think I prefer Henry

Badmoonsarising · 21/11/2018 13:06

I’d go gor Ben, Eli or Gabriel (lovely names) over Henry or Arthur any day. Just as well we sll differ in what we like.

Wombat222 · 21/11/2018 17:19

True! I strongly dislike all 3:)

PinkAvocado · 21/11/2018 17:25

Henry is a great name. I think it’s less ‘of the moment’ than Arthur. There are lots of Arthurs where I live that are 3 and under (and 70+!) but Henry’s seem to be more spread out.

Arthur is a name I really dislike. It is so dull and murky.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 01/12/2018 07:22

I love Henry

MeganJ93 · 02/12/2018 15:45

Definitely Arthur.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 05/12/2018 12:40

Henry. Lovely name. I have a 12 year old Henry, he also loves his name, he never gets called Hen or Harry but some friends call him Henners.

CruCru · 05/12/2018 15:12

I have a son called Henry. My SIL calls him Henners, my Finnish friend calls him Henks.

DryIce · 05/12/2018 15:18

You can't please everyone OP! Nd you don't have to - the only people it matters to please are you and your partner.

Besides, I can be guilty of being judgemental of a name in theory - but there has been many a name I haven't liked the idea of, but then seeing it attached to the gorgeous squishy baby of one of my friends or family have changed my mind!

Arthur and Henry are both lovely, solid, recognisable names with great history to them. Call him both for a day or so and see what suits

FlamingoFlamango · 05/12/2018 15:42

Eugh neither

Juanbablo · 05/12/2018 15:48

I like Henry better. The Henry's I know get called Henny or Henners.
