Is ‘Robyn’ the feminine spelling? I like it.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 12/11/2018 13:07

Lovely, but I may be biased as DD1 good friend is named Robin and she is adorable so only positive vibes for me!

SuperstarDJ · 12/11/2018 13:08

I quite like it. I’d spell it Robyn though.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 12/11/2018 13:09

Lovely but I would spell it Robyn for a girl.

insanitypack · 12/11/2018 13:09

I'm not sure about the spelling actually. I prefer the spelling Robin but wouldn't want a girl to think she's got the wrong spelling all her life!

Robyn for a girl. If you use Robin I’d assume you’d had a boy.

PepsiLola · 12/11/2018 13:12

Robyn girl
Robin boy

Sorry

insanitypack · 12/11/2018 13:13

Robyn is just so ugly...

Back to the drawing board then

I love it. Robin with that spelling was on my short list for a girl.

It's a completely acceptable and correct spelling of the name for a girl.

mossyroundhill · 12/11/2018 13:19

I've never heard of it needing a Y for a girl? It's a type of bird, surely it's unisex.
Robin is beautiful, I had it on my list for a girl and I would have spelled it like that!

Sophronia · 12/11/2018 13:20

I don’t like it with a y either, it looks misspelled. I think the Robin spelling is fine for a girl or a boy.

Elllicam · 12/11/2018 13:22

I like Robin for a girl (also not keen on Robyn)

insanitypack · 12/11/2018 13:23

Yeah Robyn definitely looks misspelled

OP posts:
DonDrapersOldFashioned · 12/11/2018 13:43

Lol @ ‘looks misspelled’

insanitypack · 12/11/2018 13:48

@DonDrapersOldFashioned

The past tense of misspell is misspelled in American English. However, in other varieties of English, misspelt is also acceptable.

That wasn’t my reason for laughing. There are so many made up, nonsense names put on ‘baby names’, it is funny that when a real, actual name with a genuine spelling comes along it now looks ‘misspelled’.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 12/11/2018 13:51

I love it, and I would absolutely use the Robin spelling for a girl.

I was raised on the Chalet School books though, so to me it is a girl's name.

spanishwife · 12/11/2018 13:51

If I saw Robin I would assume it's a boy, sorry OP

sylviec · 12/11/2018 13:57

I think Robin is out for me. Sylvie/Sylvia is the next one I'm thinking of.

Si1ver · 12/11/2018 13:57

@DonDrapersOldFashioned when you consider more than one person named a child Jaxxon last year you might have a point 😂

Either Robin or Robyn are correct for a girl. I do just prefer Robin though.

sylviec · 12/11/2018 13:58

Jaxxon is fucking awful

IsabelleSE19 · 12/11/2018 14:00

Love Robin - it can definitely be either spelled that way. Don't be put off OP!

beargryllshasabigrope · 12/11/2018 14:00

I love it

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 12/11/2018 14:00

Exactly si1ver Shock

daisypond · 12/11/2018 14:04

I'm not keen, but it's fine. Robin is traditionally a short form for Robert (as in Robin Hood) and nothing to do with the bird,, but it's fine for a girl too. I'd like it more as a short form for Roberta, though. I wouldn't be keen if it was a name after the bird.
