Thoughts on Eleanora

TheCag · 08/11/2018 19:56

I've just come across the name Eleanora and I love it. Dh is not so convinced, he thinks its an 'old woman name'. It incorporates my beloved Grandma's name (Nora), and I think there's great nickname potential too.

What does everyone think? Dd is due in a few weeks and we are really struggling!

Beautiful name

chickywoo · 08/11/2018 20:02

Beautiful, I’ve heard it recently on the haunting of hill house series she was called nell or Nellie for short her sister was Theodora - Theo, both struck me as gorgeous girls names

Catpyjama · 08/11/2018 20:03

Bit on the frilly/silly side, what about Eleanor? You can call her Eleanora in a playful way but she'll have an elegant, grownup name.

DulcetMoans · 08/11/2018 20:04

I work with an Eleanora. I think it's lovely. We call her Ele for short.

Zofloramummy · 08/11/2018 20:05

It’s a lovely name but I would go for the traditional Eleanor (Eleanor of Aquitaine was a formidable woman! The only woman in history to be the Queen of England and France). Use Eleanora at home or your preferred nick name.

I think traditional names are timeless and classic.

Shadow1234 · 08/11/2018 20:09

I think its a very pretty name.

WakeUpSlow · 08/11/2018 20:12

I work with an Italian lady with this name. She's lovely, and very good at her job.

Cosmoa · 08/11/2018 20:17

Nice but a bit of a mouthful.

Raydan · 08/11/2018 20:19

Bit OTT. I think Eleanor is beautiful though.

Vi0l3t · 08/11/2018 20:30

Nice but as others have said is a bit of a mouthful- prefer Eleanor

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 08/11/2018 21:08

I like Leonora better. I think I prefer Eleanor.

Lulu1919 · 08/11/2018 21:10

Love it

JaiNotJay · 08/11/2018 21:12

I think it's too frilly as well, but Eleanor nicknamed Nora would be cute.

kenandbarbie · 08/11/2018 21:13

I love it! I don't find it too fancy.

Didyeeaye · 08/11/2018 21:16

I like it a lot better than Eleanor. It's a lot prettier imo. I Love Nora as a nickname but Eleanora as a full name gives her options when she is older

DramaAlpaca · 08/11/2018 21:17

I prefer Eleanor, but that's probably because I dislike Nora intensely. I find it a very ugly name. Eleanora is very fussy in comparison to the elegant Eleanor.

BikeRunSki · 08/11/2018 21:19

I Feee with those who find it a bit frilly. Leinora is much nicer; could also abbreviate to Nora.

MotherOfTheNoise · 08/11/2018 22:19

Well I think it's a fabulous name, none better in my opinion

I also have lots of nicknames from it (Ellie, Elle, Nora, Nory etc)

mycatplotsdeath · 08/11/2018 22:28

Classic and strong

Picknickers · 08/11/2018 23:59

Much less clompy than Eleanor. I like it so much better.

TheCag · 09/11/2018 10:25

Thanks everyone, quite mixed responses!

I agree it's frilly and I don't tend to favour flouncy names but I like this one.

We have so few other names we like, i'm adding it to the list. We have until Christmas to figure it out. I found naming boys so much easier than girls!

I love Eleanora but am not keen on Eleanor. I think it’s lovely that it also incorporates your grandma’s name.

Lavenderdays · 09/11/2018 16:43

I have an Eleanor. Lovely name can be shortened to Ellie, Elle or Ella etc. I find myself calling her Eleanora in a playful way but obviously in the end chose Eleanor. IMO, it is a strong, classic name with playful/more modern nicknames = win, win.

brodiee · 09/11/2018 19:13

How is it pronounced?

Is it

El- in - nor - a

Or

El - li- a - nora

Polkasq · 09/11/2018 19:15

I would say Ella Nora.
