Using a longer version of your own name

When we named DC a few years ago we gave her a shorter version of a longer name (think Katie rather than Katherine) as Dh really didn't like the full name. I've always semi regretted it but recently we have been calling her by the longer version - not really sure why it just kind of happened and she seems to like it too & is starting to refer to herself as that.

What I'm wondering is - would it be worth changing her certificate via deed poll or would she need to do it when she's older or are there people that are just 'Known as' a longer version of their name - like the opposite of having a shorter nickname I suppose. So annoyed I didn't put my foot down when she was registered, especially as DH now agrees that we should of too

I would just change the BC name. Going by a nickname is common but I’ve never really heard of anyone going by a longer form that isn’t legally on the BC. Seeing as she recognises the longer name as hers and responds to it already, I would just go ahead and change it legally. She can still be “Short Form” whenever she likes.

I always always go by the short version of my (on my birth certificate) long name. It has never caused any problems. I don't think there is inherently anything wrong with changing your DDs name by deed poll but I equally don't think it serves a purpose

I would change it. Going longer is different than using a diminutive of a name.
