We have three months left to find a name and we chose a name we like wren but found out there is already 2 girls in our street called it. Bummer. We like unusual names but we've decided we want to name her after a bird. So far we like the name cettis but the proper name is a cettia? Which one sounds nicer
Cettia or cettis?
Or has anyone else got a nice name which is related to a bird. We have a son named after a flower and son named after an animal and a girl named after a culture? X

Linnet is my favourite bird name. Robin is the most common bird name.

I don't know how to pronounce Cettia - is it like settia or chettia? Either way, I think that sounds better than Cettis.

Relaxdontdoit · 03/11/2018 13:01

We would pronounced it like cet- tia I like it better then cettis xx

Ava comes from Avis, meaning bird, but Ava is very popular atm.
Jemima and Paloma mean dove.
Gwennol is Cornish for swallow.
Alouette is French for skylark.
There is also Robyn - good for a winter baby.

Cettia reminds me of poinsettia, or a setter dog.

Rhea might suit, its related to an ostrich apparently. But I think I'd look for a name that means bird in another language, or something to do with a bird. Something like Paloma - beautiful name and means dove.

We love linnet too but oh thinks he's heard a girl at kids school with this name. X

Gwylan (pr Gwill-an). Welsh for seagull.

AtticaRose · 03/11/2018 15:53

Aderyn (bird)
Branwen (beautiful raven)
Columba (dove)

That said, I'm firmly of the opinion that if you like Wren you should just use it! What if your neighbours moved away tomorrow, and you'd avoided the name only because of them?

junebirthdaygirl · 03/11/2018 15:57

Celandine is a flowers name but also means swallow. Might fit with your flower already plus being a bird.
In lreland years ago some girls were called Birdie???
Also Lark is a girls name

masktaster · 03/11/2018 16:00

Jay(e)
Birdie

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/11/2018 16:00

Linnit is gorgeous and I'm sorry but That's just a silly statement from about your dh about another child having the name. There are over 7 billion people in the world. Does he think we all have a different name
Said with respect but I also think you're being a tad daft about Wren.
So what if there are 2 other kids in the street called it.
Other ideas
Dove
Raven
Sparrow (Might be pushing it, though)

I also prefer to Cettia to Cettis. Not overly keen on either.

I think Robyn is lovely - known but never common.

RyelandSheep · 03/11/2018 19:36

Not keen on Certtis

Cettia sounds like settee-ah as in sofa/couch!
